More details of Pr. George's County layoffs emerge
After 50 government employees were notified early this month that they would be laid off by Prince George's County in order to close a budget gap, the precise numbers of how many workers were let go from each county agency have been confirmed.
The workers were let go after the state cut $22.7 million in aid to the county. The numbers below, confirmed by James Keary, spokesman for County Executive Jack B. Johnson (D), do not account for further anticipated cuts to the county health department, and potential cuts that could result from any further slashing of state aid, Keary said.
Keary said identifying which health department workers to lay off has been difficult especially given the swine flu outbreak. The county police department saw no layoffs, Keary said.
