Now It's Your Turn: Are ICC tolls too high?

Your Turn.jpgThe Montgomery County Council thinks proposed tolls for the Intercounty Connector would be too expensive and leave the highway with too few users to justify its cost. The Maryland Transportation Authority is scheduled to vote on the toll plan next month. What do you think?

That's kind of the point... the people who use it should have to pay the astronomical cost of building it. Why should those taxpayers who will never have cause to drive on it have to subsidize a majority of the costs and therefore subsidize the suburban and rural lifestyle of those who do?

the point of this monstrosity has changed over the years, now it's supposed to relieve congestion on local roads. The opponents were right, it was only built to allow a PG developer to get a huge project approved at the 95 end of the ICC. Anyhow, the state is so broke by the time this opens for traffic, they will probably double the tolls so six bucks will seem like a bargain.

Here's a comment from our Facebook page:

Charles Herbert: It has been built. Get over it. $6.00 seems to much for one way. But how does the math add up. Do they absolutely have to have that level of Toll.

More from Facebook:

Karen Shimp: The toll is so high, will be very interesting to see who's actually willing to pay it. Hubby had an interesting idea: Make it free for the first 3 months or so, get people addicted to it & therefore willing to pay.

William Thomas Capps: mmm You think they should have thought about this, before it passed to build it ? There you go again Annapolis.

Regarding the sky-high ICC $12.00 plus round trip toll, the toll revenue was never expected to pay for ICC construction. Taxpayers have already been shafted for over $3 BILLION for construction. The toll revenue is only supposed to cover SOME of the maintenance costs, and SOME of the bond interest.

You see, much of this boondoggle was charged by the state thru bond issues. So, not only are taxpayers footing the bill, they will be paying interest on the borrowed construction funds!

Does it get any better than this?
