Best press release of the day: Dixon honors Zappa

"Best press release of the day" is an occasional feature of Maryland Politics in which we present verbatim a press release that grabbed our attention. The following came out of the office of Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon (D) on Monday morning:

Mayor Dixon Declares December 21st "Frank Zappa Day"

Baltimore, MD (December 21, 2009) - Mayor Sheila Dixon issued a proclamation declaring December 21, 2009, as "Frank Zappa Day" in Baltimore.

Born in Baltimore on December 21, 1940, Frank Zappa went on to become a world-renowned composer, musician, and author before his untimely passing due to prostate cancer in 1993.

Frank Zappa has received international recognition for his talents, innovation, and defense of the First Amendment. He has been honored in various ways for his accomplishments and influence, including the naming of Frank Zappa Street in Berlin, Germany, the naming of a small asteroid, 3834 Zappafrank, and the erection of a bust in Vilnius, Lithuania. Most recently, Baltimore's Southeast Anchor Library has been designated as the installation site for a replica of the Vilnian bust of Frank Zappa, which will allow fans, residents, and visitors to pay tribute to him in the city of his birth.

What no mention of that very timely and classic Zappa warning, "watch out where the huskies go, so you don't eat that yellow snow."

Now, that would've been a press release worth noting.
