Owings confirms bid for governor on Facebook

John Wagner

Thumbnail image for Owings.jpgTruth be told, George W. Owings III did not leave too much doubt in recent media interviews about what he plans to announce next week. But what little suspense remained is now gone.

Owings, who had declined to confirm his intentions in an interview with The Post, is now advertising his Democratic bid for governor on multiple Facebook pages.

Among them is the not-too-subtle "George W. Owings III Candidacy for Governor Announcement" page. On it, Owings writes: "I would be honored to have you join me for this very special day as we CHANGE MARYLAND in 2010!" More than 400 Facebook friends have been invited to attend the announcement in Prince Frederick on Wednesday.

Owings, a former state veterans affairs secretary and former legislator, also posted the following on his personal Facebook page: "I hope you'll be with me as I announce my candidacy for Governor on 1/6!" And Owings has a fan page, which is also advertising the event.
