Report: Dixon agrees to resign as Baltimore mayor

Dixon photo.jpgWBAL-TV in Baltimore is reporting that Mayor Sheila Dixon (D) will resign as part of a deal reached on her recent conviction on charges of embezzling gift cards intended for the needy and a future case involving perjury charges.

According to WBAL: "Dixon will get probation before judgment on the embezzlement conviction, meaning she can keep her pension that's worth more than $80,000 a year. She'll also have to make a $45,000 donation to the Bea Gaddy Foundation and do community service with Our Daily Bread. ... The mayor agreed that she would not seek office in the city or state, and she will also be on probation for at least four years."

The Baltimore Sun says Dixon's resignation will be effective Feb. 4.

Disgusting! Gets to KEEP her $80K a year retirement after STEALING FOOD OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF POOR CONSTUENTS...LITERALLY! This is more of the Democratic parties compassion for the poor, right?

The Democratic administration in Baltimore is starting to look more and more like the Federal one we have here in DC! Did I use the word DISGUSTING! Welcome to the new Banana Republic that was the United States!

Another fine, outstanding, selfless public servant. Did she have credit card debt up to her eyeballs like a lot of women or was she addicted to gambling? What made her embezzle gift cards of all things? That's pretty desperate to say the least. She must have known she'd get caught sooner or later. Can't keep anything hidden for long these days. They should cut her pension in half. Not long she deserved it.

Keep your comments in check people, and let's put this in perspective. It was $500. Not $50,000, but $500 only. She should resign, and she made a mistake but just because she's a public figure doesn't mean she should have her life and her retirement ruined. Think in your mind back to the worst you've done in your life and compare it to this.

It's also not as if Dixon is rich or anything. $45,000 is a huge donation for anyone who only will bring in $80,000 in pension per year (minus taxes).

She made a mistake and was set up to take a fall. People have been wanting to get her out of office for a while and it worked. I wish her all the luck in what ever she does next. Bless her and her family. People be careful how you throw stones at someone, it will come back to you. One one person can judge her and that is the man up stairs.

Obviously crzytwnman, you dont know all the facts. She had been elected to serve the people of this city, not steal from them. She should be held to a higher standard. She knew exactly what she was doing. She still had over $1500 worth of Gift cards sitting on her bedroom dresser when the police raided her home. These were supposed to be gifts to the low income children of Baltimore. She claimed that she thought they were hers, but the cards had been delivered to her office by local developers per her request to help the needy. So she's either incredibly stupid, or a pathelogical liar. She stole from the children of this city. Nothing can excuse that.

She took the plea so she would not have face trial in March for the Perjury charge that she had taken gifts (including a full length mink coat)from a boyfriend who she had voted tax breaks to while she was Council President. She's a typical Arrogant Maryland Democrat who thinks that since she's a black woman, she could get away with this. She should have been denied her pension at least. Just another example of the Corrupt One party system in this state and city.

The b*tch deserves to be spanked with a leather belt on her bare hiney. Then directed to sweep the trash-strewn streets in downtown Baltimore. She also needs a crash course in being humble.

King Adrian Malik Fenty should be next to resign for his corruption and nepotism in the District Government. On the issue of race, whites, blacks, and Hispanics politicians have been convicted for corruption. The majority seating in Congress are white and I can assure you, many have skeletons or corruption in their closets. Both the Democratic and Republican parties aren't worth sh@t. We the U.S. citizens are doomed in this country. Politiicans don't represent U.S. citzens. They represent themselves, Corporations, illegal aliens, etc., not the U.S. voters/citizens.

I think it would be best if half her pension should be donated to the needy!

She got "probation before verdict" after the verdict. That doesn't seem legal. I thought that was a plea you could get before the trial. Not after your found guilty. And if found guilty she is to give up her pension. We have to pay $80,000 a year to a theif? She stole on the job from those she should be protecting and who could afford it the least. "scum of the earth" as my mother would say.
