Ehrlich to announce running mate at 10 p.m.
The official word about the running mate pick of former governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R) will come on Ehrlich's Facebook page at 10 p.m. Wednesday, the campaign says.
Speculation continues to center on Mary D. Kane, Ehrlich's former secretary of state and wife of former Maryland Republican Party chairman John Kane. But the Ehrlich camp has played it close to the vest, and other names remain in circulation among GOP insiders and other Maryland political junkies.
Ehrlich confirmed in a brief interview Tuesday night that he had made a selection, saying: "Personal compatibility and philosophical compatibility have always been the dominant factors." Ehrlich said geography and gender were "secondary" issues.
Ten to 12 people were seriously considered for the role of his lieutenant governor, Ehrlich said.
According to an announcement Wednesday morning, Ehrlich's new running mate will join him at events Thursday in Silver Spring, Baltimore and Waldorf. The ticket plans to officially file its candidacy on Friday.
