Michelle Obama, Sasha visit Md. State House

CSC_0814.JPGA visit to Maryland's State House billed as a sort of First Family summer school for 9-year-old Sasha Obama and her cousins briefly halted work inside the state capital and produced a spectacle in Annapolis on Tuesday as police pushed crowds further from the capital.

A spokesman for Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) said Michelle Obama remarked that the tour was one of a series of summer educational trips. The state's archivist showed the Obamas around the floor where George Washington resigned as commander of the Continental Army, and where Maryland's legislature still meets today. O'Malley gave Sasha and her two young cousins pewter pillboxes engraved with the state seal.

DSC_0685.JPGThe visit was described as a "private tour" and a Washington Post reporter with an office in the State House was told to leave the building as the Obamas arrived. Other reporters were told they could not enter the building once the tour had begun. Several House and Senate staffers who were allowed to remain inside said they were told to turn away down hallways or into offices as the family passed. Outside a crowd of about 50 onlookers were pushed back three times, ultimately across a roadway.

CSC_0812.JPGFollowing the tour, the Obamas emerged from the State House and walked through Lawyer's Square, pausing at the memorial to Thurgood Marshall, the nation's first African-American Supreme Court Justice. Michelle Obama waved to the crowd before the motorcade sped away.

It was the first trip to Annapolis by a member of the First Family since the Maryland governor's race heated up this spring. President Obama is expected to campaign for O'Malley before November, but Tuesday's visit produced no campaign image for the Democratic incumbent. A governor's office photographer was instructed not to take pictures.

Someone should tell this black Leona Helmsley that she is not the petite young adult she believes herself to be and suggest she start dressing and behaving as the very large middle-age woman she is.

The arrogance displayed here has nothing to do with security and everything to do with hubris. After the bad publicity for the Spain trip Moochelle is really trying to rub it in.
They can't leave Washington soon enough.

I think our First Lady is wonderful, as is our President...actually, the entire First Family.

I call it politics.People will have to say negative or postive about an issue..or politically speaking,it is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedy.

Good for Mrs. Obama and the girls to get out of DC and visit nearby historic Annapolis! Some of the comments above are just plain ignorant, I wonder if some people were ever taught their manners.

I would love to take my children and students on educational tours, but I have been laid off from my [teaching] job and cannot even pay my rent. The President and his family are being treated as royalty and that was NOT what was expected in 1776. The Obamas have had more vacations and 'tours' than any presidential family in 200 years.

"Several House and Senate staffers who were allowed to remain inside said they were told to turn away down hallways or into offices as the family passed."

Why? Will they turn to salt if they look upon the Obamas?

Are the riff-raff not allowed to look upon their betters?

Or what?

This is ridiculous.

This FIRST LADY has displayed such arrogance towards Mainstream people- she has become OBNOXIOUS! I thought Nancy Reagen was arrogant- this broad is beyond belief!

Send her back to Chicago, where she fit's in! Not a leader, a Community Organizer that has no PRIDE IN AMERICAN PRINCIPAL'S!

I am so sick of being embarrassed by her "outfit's" of the day.

SORRY, our First Lady- should have some class. Her outfit's are just plain CRASS!

Another article said they lunched on crab cakes which Michelle pronounced the best she ever had. Crab cakes, while delicious, don't fall into the category of health food. What is with her, always eating fattening, unhealthy food then telling us what to eat and feed our kids? She must make the secret service take care of the kids, she is right out front, walking ahead, no kiddies to slow her down.

Instructed To "Turn Away"?

By far the most telling incident reported here is the hubris, arrogance, and in your face stupidity displayed by our "First Lady" (can you even believe such a cosmic joke, played on a long-suffering public?) who, apparently, is now given to requiring her subjects to look away as she passes by!

Who are these people? Who are these low rent frauds?

Peasants are not allowed to look at Queens, bruce. Don't you know protocol?

This isn't just politics, this isn't about safety, this is about out of control ego and control of the highest measure.

What's it's not about is public service.

Is it November yet?

Wow! The President's wife and 9 year old daughter visit the MD state house ... and still some posters here cannot contain their racism and jealously? Pretty petty, folks!

Please remember the "golden rule" and "judge not lest ye be judged". Really.
