Miller says odds favor Senate passage of same-sex marriage bill in Maryland

By John Wagner

Thumbnail image for mike miller.jpgHours before a high-profile hearing on legalizing same-sex marriage Tuesday, Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. predicted a close vote in his chamber next week, with the odds favoring passage.

Miller (D-Calvert) put the chances of the legislation passing the Senate at 60 percent to 70 percent, but said the vote count "is going to be very close." He suggested that the bill would get somewhere between 22 and 25 votes in the chamber. Twenty-four are required for passage.

Miller, who opposes same-sex marriage, said he expects everyone in the Senate to "do what you think is right on this issue."

If opponents mount a filibuster, Miller said he expects to corral the 29 votes needed to end debate and allow a vote on the legislation.

The bill is being heard Tuesday afternoon by the Judicial Proceedings Committee, where a majority of members have announced their support. Miller said he expects the bill to arrive on the Senate floor next week.

Today legalization of "homosexual marriage", tomorrow legalization of pedophilia through the gradual lowering of age of consent. Step by step the democrats are taking us to the bottom rung of the morality ladder.

This is what Maryland politians are worried about?

Yep keep continuing to do nothing about the theft aka stealing (est) $2500 property tax a year to live on a postage stamp from most MD home owners.

Also continue letting MD be a santuary state for illegal immigrants. You know the ones construction, fast food, etc companies are hiring instead of legal citizens.

There is no pride left in MD. I look forward to moving out of it in a few years.

This is what's known as hyperbole. Tactic of the excitable demagogue.

Thank you Maryland!!! It's about time upright, law abiding, tax paying homosexuals FINALLY get equal rights! And to Penniless----sorry to burst your bubble, but a mutually caring loving relationship between adults has nothing to do with (your apparent obsession with) pedophilia.

@penniless_taxpayer

I doubt your bigotry stance is anyone to set the bar for "morality". Pedophilia is dominated by heterosexuals and has nothing to do with two consenting adults getting married. Would you like your right to marraige to be taken from you? What makes you better than someone else who seeks equal (not special) rights?

As for your labeling democrats, bear in mind there are conservative democrats and liberal republicans. You're pretty good at name calling, but if you could read, you'd see that Miller is a democrat and he opposes the legislation.

peeniless_taxpayer: Why do you equate same sex marriage with pedophilia? Most pedophiles are heterosexuals.

To all you supporters of this abnormal behavior I say this....
"If your father married his brother instead of your mother,you wouldn't be here"

@AmericanJim1949

So you're proposing same-sex marriage as a form of population control? Intriguing although I honestly think most countries where overpopulation is a concern would hesitate to approve such behavior.

Of course, if your statement is supposed to be a serious comment on the article, please remember that we would also not be reading whatever it is you were trying to say. Hmmm, sounds like a major win to me.

Is it normal to be abnormal...
...or abnormal to be normal?
........which one prevails?
Do we remove both words from the ....dictionary?
..Just asking...

==================

Gays are as normal (and as common) as people with green eyes. But if you *really* want to call people with green eyes abnormal, go ahead, if that makes your feel better.

No other state in the nation comes even close to having a larger percentage of highly educated, compensated, and affluent Black men and women than Maryland. We sit in our churches every Sunday while our pastors hand the podium over Democratic tokens and sell-outs, and all we do is sit there and applaud?!! Do we stand for anything? They assassinate Malcolm and Martin, so we just stop standing for what WE believe in? There is no excuse for this MARYLAND! Choose today, who you will serve. God, or our sell-out churches and the Democratic platform.

This is B.S. Most homosexuals are a result of pedophilia. I'm sure your uncle will agree.

@penniless_taxpayer

You equate sexual abuse of a child with what two consenting adults do?
So, tell me -- are you familiar with the phrases "straw man argument" and "red herring?"

@WallyWutMD:

do you have a reputable source that links childhood molestation to sexual preference? and by reputable source, I don't mean Westboro Baptist.
