First of all, how does anyone get left vs right from this cartoon? They aren't labeled, are they? Therefore, YOU, the reader, are making the interpretation based on what YOU think.

GeorgeDixon, blow off. You can find only ONE comment made by Obama that implied actual violence. After the RIGHT bring the knives. BTW, that quote isn't unique to Obama. It is in at LEAST four movies, as well as on Sid Meier's Civilization game.

You are off your rocker, and you need to seek professional help.

Maybe because anyone with two brain cells knows what the symbolism of red and blue means.

Words and symbols have lives of their own! The use of crosshairs, bulleyes, threats, and slurs enables and encourages fringe radicals. They feel vindicated when they hear and see public officials, pundits and leaders using inflammatory commentary.

ANN;
In terms of tennis, "WELL PLAYED"

It's not just some Arizona nitwit that we have to look out for, it's also the Lee Harvey Oswald's, the Sirhan Sirhan's, the Squeaky Fromme's of the world - and an entire group of followers of Islam (in case people forget 9/11/2001- and Fort Hood.)

I wrote this comment when Ms Telnaes "Guns Appear at Town Hall Meetings" animation was published.

Unfortunately, it also fits today's Cartoon.

"I remember seeing gun show dealers with red flags, with yellow Russian Sickles and "Clinton" emblazoned on them, brass knuckles being sold "legally" to anyone with cash as "paper weights", and a middle-aged man wearing a beret and camouflage paramilitary clothing showing a VHS tape and explaining how to convert a 12 gauge semi-auto shotgun into a BELT FED 12 gauge machine gun with bipod. THOSE are the kind of nuts that represent the extremists among the NRA. I was a member until Bush Sr., dropped out because of some NRA members who sympathized with the Oklahoma bomber!
That was in Houston, Texas while Clinton was President.
I do not intend this as “hate” mail. I have been an avid weapons collector for years, and enjoyed the hunters and antique Kentucky Rifle beauties at gun shows. Here, I have described the LAST Houston gun show that I attended (no cameras allowed), “Waco David” was there, and us old timers were being rapidly replaced by paramilitary types of right wing extremists."

Ms. Telnaes, please explain how Loughner's views on cap-and-trade or the stimulus led to this act. Or could it be that a guy who keeps a skull shrine in his backyard and answers algebra problems with "Eat + Sleep + Brush Teeth = Math" is, maybe... just a nut?

Next, you'll be telling us that it was Jerry Brown's fault that Arthur Bremer took a shot at Wallace.

A left-wing pot-head shoots a conservative Democrat and it is Palin's fault?
Posted by: georgedixon1

My reply,
Make your mind up. The Republicans call the Democrats liberals all of the time.

It was a Democrat who was shot and the problem is the right wing-nut Republicans who are making false accusations and distorting the truth.

Get the story straight.
We need less rhetoric and more cooperation.
Otherwise, we will self-destruct to the great pleasure of our enemies.
We need to "tell it like it is" and call traitors what they are. TRAITORS!

The Muslim psychiatrist who shot up Ft Hood was condemned for using the words of a Yemeni cleric as his inspiration, the Right-wing nuts on Fox said, yeah, kill the cleric, his words incited the Muslim Dr. to violence. Yet, when O'Reilly, Palin and Beck use similar language against liberals and Democrats, the Right-wing denies that words matter. I remember it was O'Reilly who drummed up hatred for Dr. Tiller in Kansas, who was assassinated by a crazed psychotic anti-abortion nut. O'Reilly denied any connection. Palin puts gun sight targets on Dems in Congress, yet denies any connection to shootings. WTF?

Freedom of speech is a right not a tool to gain publicity or notoriety by enticing unstable people in our nation.

Thanks, Ann, for making the central issue How we should disagree. Forgive the others who are wound up from rhetoric.

Nice subliminal message there, the right are the violent ones (guy in red shirt). Why to keep the hyperbole up Ann.

You leftists are both dangerous and fools.

Free Speech? Talk to Obama......

"I want you to argue with them and get in their face!" Barack Obama, September 2008

“We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us.” Obama to Latinos, October 2010

“I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!” Obama on ACORN Mobs, March 2010

The Leader of the Left says: “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” Barack Obama

I think this is in poor taste. You're equating the actions of someone who has psycological problems to an entire group that you, just happen, to disagree with? Isn't that a little of the pot calling the kettle black?

Real Freedom requires diversity to keep everything in line. One extreme attitude usually meets up with another opposing extreme attitude. Then Ann supports one of them and makes a cartoon about it. The sad thing is moderates just don't pay attention to any of it. IGNORE=IGNORANCE Mediocrity makes for a boring world also.

Sure the Post runs stories like Georgetown University Law Professor, David Cole's mocking Conservative Constitution on the front page of Sunday's Outlook section and then asks people to turn down the rhetoric.

That an issue as charitable and peace loving as taking care of the sick in a country should have unleashed the hatred of such a substantial part of the country, defies logic.

That so many people can (and do) own and use and promote all sorts of guns as a part of every citizen's everyday wear as a sacred right, defies logic.

That a country promotes policies that clearly increase the number of poor and dispossessed in its population while hugely rewarding an unproductive group of financial manipulators, defies logic.

Tolerance, even promotion of hatred and division by substantial media in defence of free speech, defies logic.

But practically everything about America, since Ronald Reagan became president, has defied logic.

Defying Logic has consequences.

America circles ever closer to the drain.

It's sad that Ann Telnaes has offended both the rules of journalism (by jumping to conclusions before the facts avail themselves) and the law (by profiling the shooter).

Remember the 2002 sniper case? The media instantly profiled the shooter as an angry, white, conservative militia member. It's quite possible that Ann may be eating her words (or cartoon) before long.

Now is the time to pray, not exploit a horrible tragedy with more vitriol.

Bye Bye GOP

People who aspire to positions of leadership need to recognize the inherent potential hazards of such inflammatory commentary. Simply because one has the First Amendment Right to say a thing does not mean it is the right thing to say.

Posted by: labman57 | January 9, 2011 8:45 PM | Report abuse

The left has been overtly partisan since the shootings.....jumping to ALL the wrong conclusions....like this cartoon.

The shooter is described as "left wing" and "liberal" by those who know him. Drudge Report as well says : "Described by Classmate as 'Left-Wing Pothead'... "

The shooter “favorited” just one video on YouTube, an American Flag burning video

Then there is this:

Hate Post on the DEMOCRAT website the DAILYKOS on Thursday.....

"My CongressWOMAN voted against Nancy Pelosi! And is now DEAD to me!
Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is dead to me now…..And why did she do this? Giffords never told me she was conservative Democrat."

The above is neither isolated nor unique.
Leftwing sites have been very harsh about Bluedog Conservative Democrats like THIS Congresswoman since the run-up to the election.

Then you have the quotes of President Obama:

"I want you to argue with them and get in their face!" Barack Obama, September 2008

“We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us.” Obama to Latinos, October 2010

“I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!” Obama on ACORN Mobs, March 2010

The Leader of the Left says: “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” Barack Obama

As you read this the Democrat website the DAILYKOS is scrubbing....here is a captured screen shot:

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_gcA0ZuKGkI8/TSkFVGTgLoI/AAAAAAAAJkI/iFJORGeSB5M/s1600/kospost.jpg

The antiSemitism of the liberal left of the past two years has been over the top as well....

The Congresswoman is also Jewish.
