There are 3 possible positions:

1. Abortion is murder => pro life

2. Abortion is not murder => pro abortion

3. Whether abortion is murder or not is unknown. Thus the government must not be the decider => pro choice.

Republicans will get votes from #1
Democrats will get votes from #2 and #3

I'm with the #3s.

ARickoverNuke,

“When you are ready to provide an agruement against my first two criticism of Ann's latest cartoon, then we might be able to have a conversation and maybe even a debate.”
===========================================
It is difficult to “agrue” about your “first two criticism” of Ann’s latest cartoon. Indeed as a retired prof emeritus with 30 yrs research/teaching in fertilization and gametogenesis, I find your erroneous conclusion that real sex education (as opposed to Abstinence Only mythology) hasn’t been effective in curtailing venereal diseases and teen pregnancies simply confirms that you don’t know what you are ranting about.

Your second premise that the cartoon demonizes only Republicans is not relevant. Anyone with any knowledge KNOWS that many Democrats and Independents (that is, those who are somewhat ignorant of developmental biology) are totally opposed to abortions. HOWEVER, as the Cartoon Clearly Shows …it is the Republican Party that is constantly submitting Legislation to gain Government control of women’s bodies and lives.

You forgot to number your 3rd. To erroneously and stupidly think it is hypocritical to rail against government inhibition of abortions while at the same time taking away choice about health care and food you can or can’t eat.

You are free to put arsenic, lead or other toxins in YOUR food, but please THANK the government for making it illegal for dairies to add formaldehyde to our milk, DDT on our food crops, etc..

Health care . . . nearest of your ramblings to approach reality. The mandatory purchase of health care does call for serious evaluation . . ., which is especially difficult to get from people like McConnell and Boehner, whose ONLY interest is taking Obama down and delivering the government to the Koch Brothers.

I find it amasing that extremists like lufrank1 always refuse to counteragrue logic and morality but rather want to think that inanne slogans win debates. When you are ready to provide an agruement against my first two criticism of Ann's latest cartoon, then we might be able to have a conversation and maybe even a debate.

So, lufrank1, why don't you re-read my post and try if you can to understand rationale and logic in debating as to why I do not like what Ann has done. That is if you have the intellectual integrity to agrue thoughtfully to the points I raised about how contraception education has failed miserably and why Ann is wrong to focus exclusively only on Republicans.

Abortions are the bedrock of a Democrats society. Democrats will fight really hard to make sure a baby doesn't have a chance to get out of the womb if that is the choice.

ARickoverNuke,

Government CONTROL of women's bodies = O.K.?

But Government of human (non-hunting) military guns and extended magazines NOT O.K.? Government control of Food Safety Not O.K. ? etc.

Believe I'll stay with the Libs on this one.

Lots of us understand that a fertilized human egg or brainless embryo IS NOT A BABY!

Ann,

One of your more stupid cartoons ever. In this day and age of rigorous sex education starting in Middle Schools for most school districts in combination with free condom distribution in the schools and the ability to mass market contraception at almost any time (I hear Trojan commercials after 7pm all the time on many FM radio stations) along with a no questions ask policy at many pharmacies, there is really no excuse for unwanted pregnancies. Given that they are still happening points to the failings of this wide-ranging "public health" program. Plus, the real reason on why these unwanted and then terminated pregnancies are still occuring is being conveniently overlooked from this discussion. My God, there was a letter in the Washington Post in the last year from a woman who has had 17, yes, 17 abortions! Even under legal abortions, this number can only be viewed as unhealthy if not outright insane. Again, why wasn't this woman using the contraception that are widely available???? Too much drugs and/or alchohol at parties maybe??????

The other false premise of this cartoon is it is only Republicans who do not want to see abortions occurring. Many voters who identify themselves as Democrats also oppose abortions, its just sooo inconvenient to point out this fact probably because many of these Democrats are also Catholics who regularly attend Mass. Many Democratic office holders need these Catholic voters to win elections. So Ann why don't you have as your next "cartoon" how these Democratic Party "traitors" are murderers??????

Finally, I find it extremely hypocritical of "liberals" like you, Ann, to rail against government intrusion on "choice" regarding abortions but are extremely vocal about taking away our choice on decisions like health care and what food we can or cannot eat. Absurd!!!!!!!!

Abortion does real violence to women since 50% of those aborted are female. That's about 700,000 a year in the US. Oh, I forgot, they don't count!

"Why is it that Republicans only care about abortion when Democrats hold most of the power cards?"

According to one person that I know who's active in the Republican party, they have no intention of outlawing abortion. They just use the issue to manipulate the anti-choicers to vote for them. And they fall for it every single election.

Once upon a time, slavery was a way of life here. Someday America will understand with white-hot clarity how utterly tragic and wrong the murder of the unborn millions is.

Why is it that Republicans only care about abortion when Democrats hold most of the power cards?

Seems insincere to me. Republicans had a good lock on the White House, both the Senate and House AND the "Supreme" Court for a number of years.

Guess they were too busy making sweetheart deals for their corporate sponsors, Wall Street and others...

Take "Homeland" "Security" for example. What a boondoggle! You know somebody got PAID for that.

Remembering the bad old days before abortion was legal and safe... Women who wanted abortions then were compelled to go to back alley butchers and many, many of them died. Which must mean to some of you that she deserved it, so, well, no problem.

If a woman wants an abortion, she will get one -- legal or not. Many will die. Abortion will never, ever go away. Ever.

Keep it legal, available and safe. If you don't like abortion, don't get one.

Ann,

Next time do a cartoon of Bishop Thomas Olmsted who would rather kill women.

"This depiction of violence against women is offensive and not funny."

As opposed to the actual violence against women should the bill pass? Given the choice between saving the mother's life or the child's, the government would decide that the doctor may not save the mother's life?

Is that the kind of American Freedoms you have in mind?

Is that the GOP's stance on "less government": that the government takes these decisions out of the hands of mothers and their doctors?

And Ann, explain to us in your next comic strip why taxpayers should fund abortion?"

You know, when you lie like that it undermines your cause, your legitimacy and confirms you are a piece of crap.

How can those who want the government out of our personal medical decisions reconcil with the government deciding what a woman can and cannot medically do with her body. Does the word hypocracy ring a bell?

DON'T FORGET THE ABORTION ISSUE!!!! BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

What did the GOP do about abortion when they had a lock on the senate, the house, the presidency and the Supreme Court?

Nothing.

They protected the wealthy, big business, the Pentagon and left abortion alone.

The anti-choice group are simple women haters and women killers. Right on Ann.
Women as property - Women as property - USA - USA! As the country slowly circles the drain.

Ann..
The problem is killing unborn and newborn babies not killing mothers.
Using abortion as a contraceptive is wrong.
People killing people be it for entertainment, oil, preemptive war, or personal gain; it is wrong.
The only legitimate killing is in justified self-defense.
We are less than human if we resort to killing people as a solution to problems.

Sigh . . . Dark Ages non-scientific Vatican dogma rules the Court, and fundamentalist non-scientific dogma rules the GOP and Tea Party.

Belief that a fertilized human egg, blastula, gastrula, embryo or early fetus with no functioning brain is a BABY is ridiculously stupid. Late term abortions? More reasonable and humane to limit them to rape, incest or threat to mother's health/life.

Absolutely Unforgivable - - the Dogma that in cases of life for one or the other. Mother or child ... Always save the child? Stupid and downright medieval evil!

Sad, but the Cartoon is right on Point!

Since the Democrats came out today with a bunch of gobblygook because Kagan is going to have to recuse..the Rendell separation now looks to be just another political expediency just like the topic of this cartoon.

Just saying the abortion doctor in Philly who reportedly made over $2 Million a year performing late term abortions was just indicted on murder charges. They say he had a shelf of jars filled up with the severed feet of the aborted babies. This abortion doctor had a sign on his door that read "Family Planning." Yikes!!
