The military industrial complex learned well after WW II keep fear in the minds of the public and they can justify any expenditure on any new project, program or adventure! A strong military yes but not one designed to enrich a few and waste our valuable resources.

We are in a dire need of an enemy. "Godless Communism" was a fine enemy--different from us..big and hulking..really a worthy foe. But Saddam was a big step down...not our equal at all..and we had to invent WMDs. Now Osama wont even play our game...bomb, bomb. Sigh.

Cut the "liberal" malarkey already. The fact we're in two stupid "skirmishes" costing countless (unnecessary) trillions by the handiwork of a "cast of wealthy characters" who never even went to war, is obominable. The boys over there aren't fighting for freedom; they're losing their lives to protect the millionaira/billionaire class (like Rummy and Dickie). All these traitors are writing books, making more millions, but who speaks for the wounded or dead soldiers. As for Obama; anyone would be crazy to reelect a "bro'" that goes back on his word....but then, who would be crazy enough to vote in a republican?

Where are the "conservative's" blasts at Ms Telnaes for being a Liberal?
GE shouldn't keep making useless engines just to satisfy R-Boehner, Boeing shouldn't bribe Congress (backed by D-Patty Murry), and there is NO need to spend millions for keeping the US Army and Air Force in Germany! Or to keep making inferior Hummers, ETC!
Geeze . . .$$$ for one unneeded Army Tank would pay for the FULL COST of my former 11 member Biology Department (staff, faculty and supplies) for a YEAR!
Geeze! We are SO brainwashed.

Newsflash:
Defense budget already reduced by more than most (if not all) entitlement programs in terms of real spending. (see defensenews.com for the numbers)
and yes, we are in a war against an enemy whose ultimate goal is to place all of humanity under Islamic law or sharia...you know, the law that subjugates women, promotes slavery, suppresses all non-Muslim faiths and even charges a special tax called the Jizrah to anyone who does not wish to convert to Islam.
Oh...and by the way, defense spending cuts put thousands of American workers (often belonging to unions) out of work.

Just an observation. When the Cold War ended and we were able to cut defense funding we had the one of the longest and biggest economic expansions in our history. Once we started piling billions more into defense spending and wars we've had trouble getting the economy back on track. Obviously that isn't the only reason but it's not a coincidence.
to imiller: We all know and are all concerned. Thank you for the wholly unnecessary reminder.

"Millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute."
-- Representative Robert Goodloe Harper, Address, June 18, 1798
YOU MIGHT WANT TO REMIND THE LIBERALS AROUND THE BELTWAY THAT WE ARE IN A WAR - against a group that wants us dead, that denegrates women, and believes that ALLAH is on their side.
