Daily Pic: "Jungle Survival Training, Indonesia", a photograph by An-My Le at Murray Guy gallery in New York, shows an American marine training with his Indonesian counterpart. The images that first won notice for Le showed the American military training in fake Iraqi towns in the U.S. They had some delicate irony in them. In her latest photos, Le feels more deeply embedded with the troops she records, and in stronger sympathy with them. Strangely, that didn't make the pictures any weaker. They managed to feel like un-staged Jeff Walls: Theatrical, but accidentally so.
