Met to celebrate late designer Alexander McQueen

Glamour magazine honors 'Women of the Year'
Women of the Year awards Monday night at Carnegie Hall in New York. The magazine is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the honors, which take note of women who are making a positive impact on our world. This year's winners ranged from fashion designer Donatella Versace to a Somali mother and her two daughters -- all doctors -- who have created a refugee camp and medical clinic on their family farm, where they are providing aide to thousands of displaced souls.

Michelle Obama's fashion diplomacy
Once again, first lady Michelle Obama has allowed her fashion choices to speak to the ways in which we are all part of the global community. For the state dinner in New Delhi, Obama chose an ensemble by New York-based designer Rachel Roy, who is Indian-American. She paired the designer's "sable Moroccan tunic" with a "dune velvet skirt." Her evening attire hinted at the luxurious sparkle of traditional Indian fabrics and the elegant drape of a sari without stepping into mimicry.
