The identity of iconic street artist "Banksy" just might be revealed to the public - or not.

An eBay auction that was scheduled to end tonight promised the winner that he or she would win a piece of paper with nothing but the name of the street artist from the United Kingdom, whose art has both intrigued viewers and left them dumbfounded as to the creator's identity. The listing was pulled from ebay Tuesday, but was nearing the $1 million mark, up from $3,000 when it first hit the web. The auctioneer claims to know who the artist is by using tax records from art sales.

Banksy's work has received worldwide acclaim, and the artist even released a film that is generating Oscar buzz, "Exit Through the Gift Shop: A Banksy Film" in 2010.
