Ambassador Cal to Nicaragua

From the Associated Press:

Hall-of-Famer Cal Ripken Jr. is planning his second trip abroad on behalf of the U.S. State Department.
According to a news release from Ripken Baseball, Ripken will visit Nicaragua from Nov. 13-18.
He will travel there with former Orioles teammate and Nicaraguan native Dennis Martinez.
During the five-day trip, they will visit three cities and provide baseball instruction to more than 500 children and more than 100 youth coaches.
Ripken was named American Public Diplomacy Envoy for the State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in 2007.
Last October, Ripken visited China, and he is planning a similar trip to South Africa next year.

wasn't there serious talk years ago that Dennis Martinez might become President of Nicaragua someday?
