It's a Rain Delay -- I'm sorry, okay?
We are about to enter, officially, a rain delay in Game 3 of the World Series. First pitch was to have been 8:35 p.m., and as I begin this post it is 8:29 and still raining. I'm told, unofficially, we could be looking at a 9:45 p.m. first pitch.
But since we're here in Philly, and we're in a rain delay, allow me to recommend the proper soundtrack to the moment: "Rain Delay" by the excellent Philly-based band Marah. Dave and Serge Bielanko, the brothers who front the band, are big baseball fans, and this particular track off their debut record, "Let's Cut the Crap and Hook Up Later on Tonight," features a spoken lead-in by Harry Kalas, the legendary Phillies radio voice.
The song is about a dysfunctional family attending a baseball game together ("Mom gets drunk / Daddy pays") only to be thwarted by the dreaded rain delay ("Should we stay / Or should we leave?"). The final line sounds as if it's coming from an exasperated Dad trying to placate two kids: "It's a rain delay / I'm sorry, okay?"
