Update: Sad News From Philly
June Manuel, the mother of Philadelphia Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel, died this morning after a brief illness. She was 87.
Manuel received word during a coaches meeting this morning. He remained at Citizens Bank Park and watched the Phillies take pregame batting practice as usual. But he left the field without offering comment and skipped a scheduled 1:15 pm pregame press conference.
A team spokesman said Manuel intends to manage tonight, in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series. Manuel, however, has not decided on whether he will accompany the team to Los Angeles after the game tonight. Saturday is an off day.
June Manuel lived in Buena Vista, Va. She died at Carilion Roanoke (Va.) Memorial Hospital. She is survived by 10 children. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Charlie-
My sincere condolences to you and your family.
On the other side, what happened to Chico? No posts here or on Nats Journal. Did something happen to him?

Chico's been under the weather, but he's feeling better so he'll head to LA tomorrow and pick up the NLCS with Game 3.
