The Scene in Tampa

Barry Svrluga here, wandering my way through the Gulf Coast of Florida and stumbling upon the circus here at George M. Steinbrenner Field, just off Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa.

I'll try to have updates throughout the day, but for now, there's not much to report. The Yankees position players are due to report today, and a few (Nick Swisher, John Rodriguez, etc.) trickled into the clubhouse this morning. The pitchers and catchers have been here for a few days, and they're currently stretching in right field. That, of course, includes C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett, who would make for the big story in any other camp.

That story, though, will of course be the arrival of Alex Rodriguez. This morning, A-Rod's locker sat untouched -- shirts hung neatly in a row, two caps ready for his use, a batting helmet with nary a scuff on it. Rodriguez is due to address a growing media corps at 1:30 p.m. in a circus tent underneath the left field stands.

We'll have live video of Rodriguez's press conference on washingtonpost.com, and I'll try to provide some brief updates here. Sheinin already provided an outline for what should be addressed.

It'll be interesting, too, to see which of Rodriguez's teammates show up at the press conference. Derek Jeter's locker was, like Rodriguez's, untouched this morning. He'll likely show later in the day, too.

Yay! My birth daddy is back. Chico's cool and all, but lacks that all important letter v in his name.

BARRY! BARRY! BARRY! BARRY! The crowd goes wild as the beloved founder of Nats Journal, cruelly stolen away by domestic concerns and the lure of brighter lights, returns, tips his cap and shows why this Barry will always be THE ONE in Nats land.

If Pedro Martinez were to comment here, I suspect that he would tip his cap and call the Blogfather "daddy." :-D
