Giants Release Dave Roberts
An interesting and somewhat surprising move broke this afternoon when the Giants -- after passing on an open shot at Manny Ramirez -- released outfielder Dave Roberts, whom they'll owe $6.5 million for 2009.
Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News broke the story, adding that the move was made to give Roberts a chance to look for a new team. He spent a majority of his career in San Diego before his cameo and Boston and memorable steal set the stage for Boston's miraculous comeback, and its possible he could land back with the Padres.
Evidently the Giants tried to trade Roberts all offseason, but couldn't find any takers. It'll be interesting to see who emerges as a potential suitor for Roberts, who could be a solid fourth outfielder, and potentially a corner starter for some teams.
What do people think? Where could -- and should -- Roberts end up?

in this market he'll be lucky to get a contract above the minimum salary. he's just not that good. an all glove, older player who can't hit a lick. especially when they know the man just got paid a TON of money to not play.
