Moment of Levity: One Sentence WS Defenses
You know when someone comes up with a great idea and you wish you'd thought of it a week ago? Well, let's just say that FOX Sports' Dayn Perry came up with a great idea. In fact, it's good enough to make this a Thursday with two Moments of Levity.
In the most recent addition to the FOX site's portfolio, Perry -- who writes the independent blog Spolitical when not penning baseball biographies and the like -- wrote a single sentence encapsulating the ultimate, eternal optimism of spring: Why you're team can win the World Series.
Needless to say, Perry's stretched one-liners for the Nationals and Orioles are doozies:
- Nationals -- Um, wow ... Besides having everyone else in the division disappear into the ether, the Nats need miracles in the rotation, health for Nick Johnson and Ryan Zimmerman, and somehow the ability to pitch around a terrible outfield defense.
- Orioles -- Baltimore needs Matt Wieters to live up to his potential, Nick Markakis to continue his skills growth, Aubrey Huff to repeat his 2008 performance, Felix Pie to rediscover his promise, Adam Jones to take the next step, and the rotation to be far better than any reasonable expectation.
There you go. Check out the rest of the list for your team ... they're worth reading and, for the most part, pretty dead on. Sometimes it's best to read the truth, even when searching for optimism.
