Three Up, Three Down

Battle of the Beltways: O's/Nats series sees three compelling games, though attendance averages only 28,000. Apparently, the O's also get the attendance they deserve when in D.C.

SDSU: Nats' least favorite college team makes NCAA field, ensuring at least one more start for projected No. 1 pick S. Strasburg. Nats' favorite team? Whoever is playing SDSU.

J. Maxwell: Nats' CF makes catch of the year Saturday to rob O's A. Jones of homer. Good thing he's been benched since then. Wouldn't want such great defense on a daily basis.

Replay: Nats lose to Mets on disputed home run/fan interference call. Serious question: If the replay system is only going to uphold incorrect calls, what's the point?

D-Cab: Nats RHP D. Cabrera walks three in first outing since demotion to 'pen. Gee, a guy who can't throw strikes as a starter also can't do it as a reliever. Who would've guessed?

Not So Big Papi: Red Sox DH D. Ortiz benched after batting average dips below Mendoza Line. Buddy M. Ramirez is so concerned, he offers to share his stash of female fertility drugs.

Nicely done Dave. Thanks for having the guts to call it "like it is". Not to mention any names, but lesser reporters who write for MLB would not have done so. ;-)

Funny on item one, but maybe there is only 28K pro baseball fans in the bw corridor that would pay to see ANY team on a nightly basis, the rest come to see the opposing teams. FACE IT! Angelos was and is right on how many teams the region can support sure if the nats start winning this frontrunning tow will jump on board but only for so long. the nat's make one only wish the expos would come back!

As for Big Papi, it seems apparent sox's big run in 04 much like the mcquire/sosa home run chase was tainted by ROIDs! see big papi, manny, nomar and captain caveman himself johnny damon, not to mention all the one year wonders who had there career years in a ROID SOX uniform

It's sad to think that, through 2004, the O's averaged over 33K per night every year in OPACY except 2003 (30K). Thorugh 2000, they averaged over 40K per night.

Steroids do not make you be able to hit the ball! Big Papi's failure to hit has nothing to do with drugs. And if the 2004 Red Sox team was juiced up, they were no more then any other teams, so it was an even playing field.
