The Pregame Meal of Champions
Much has been made of Wade Boggs's penchant for pregame fried chicken and beer. Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom made waves in this year's NBA playoffs for divulging his love of candy. Now we can add San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum to the list of athletes with questionable diet choices.
In her game story detailing Lincecum's 12-strikeout, complete game win over Oakland last night, Associated Press writer Janie McCauley dropped this line in:
"Lincecum (7-2), the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner who fueled up with an ice cream taco pregame in the clubhouse..."
Now, I wonder if Lincecum (who turned 25 just last week and still looks significantly younger) makes this a daily ritual or if he was simply treating himself to a delicious pregame snack. Or maybe he just needed the 15 grams of fat and 25 grams of sugar to face the Giants' Bay Area rivals.
I'm an Oatmeal Creme Pie man, myself, but regardless, Breyer's is always a better option than BALCO. If Barry Bonds had subsisted on pregame ice cream instead of (allegedly) The Cream and The Clear, he might have a completely different legacy.
