Moment of Levity: The Big Picture
On Monday, the day portion of a day-night doubleheader between the Pirates and Reds drew barely 2,000 fans. A day matchup between those two teams drew more fans on Wednesday ... barely. If you ever wondered what a near 50,000-person stadium would look like with 2,000 people in it, that section in the background behind Pirates starter Zach Duke is a pretty good indication. Three-six people per section, throughought the park. Yikes.

Calling All Cincinnati Fans: Do You Exist?
According to the Associated Press, the attendances for yesterday's day-night doubleheader between the Reds and Pirates in Cincinnati were the smallest in Great American Ballpark history. The nightcap hosted only 9,087 fans, a paltry sum for a park which can comfortably seat 42,000, particularly when you consider how many of those tickets were part of a season ticket package. If you think that's bad, brace yourself for the daytime attendance: below 2,000.

What to Make of the Pirates' Purge
It's becoming a annual rite of summer: The Pirates deal off their most marketable and lucrative assets, stripping the team of its highest salaries and those who are in line to earn them soon. There's just one problem: The trades tend to strip Pittsburgh of all its talent, too.

Red Sox Land Adam LaRoche
The Red Sox, in the midst of a miniature free fall that has dropped the team from its AL East perch, added depth to their corner infield situation and a solid right-handed bat, acquiring first baseman Adam LaRoche from the Pirates for two lower-tier minor league prospects.

Two Pirates Lash Out at MSM
According to the Pirates blog Rum Bunter, Sean Burnett and Jesse Chavez are upset that what they set up as a lighthearted joke -- lighting a candle with Nate McLouth's No. 13 on it at the table where the trio played cards everyday -- was interpreted by the media as a sort of depressed homage to McLouth's absence, and perhaps a dig at team management.

How Can the Pirates Keep Trading OFs?
Last week, the Pirates traded away an All-Star outfielder, sending Nate McLouth to the Braves for a panoply of prospects, though none are viewed as sure-fire major leaguers. Amazingly, McLouth is the third starting outfielder the Pirates have sent away in the past season, each of which was among the...
