About Behind the Numbers

Welcome to Behind the Numbers, a look inside the data that helps define political activity and debates. Behind the Numbers will feature looks at interesting bits of information from polls, votes and campaign finance data -- much of it collected by The Washington Post and washingtonpost.com, but also from external sources. We aim to highlight interesting trends, new findings and analysis for our readers, complementing The Post's extensive coverage of politics by bringing to life facets of the data. Some days that will mean delving into the results of the latest poll, while on others it will mean a brief analysis of voting patterns in Congress.

The contributors for Behind the Numbers include Jon Cohen and Jennifer Agiesta of The Post's polling staff and washingtonpost.com Database Editor Derek Willis, a co-developer of our Congress Votes Database. We want to hear from you, both in the comments and via email.
