Previewing the Presser
By Jon Cohen
New Post-ABC data on issues almost surely to come up at today's midday press conference:
Health care: 53 percent approve of how President Obama is handling the issue, 39 percent disapprove. Disapproval is up 10 points since late April (11 among independents), but Obama has a 2 to 1 advantage over Republicans in Congress on reform efforts: 55 percent trust him more on the issue, 27 percent side with the GOP.
Iran: 52 percent approve of how Obama is dealing with the situation there, including 35 percent of Republicans, the president's highest mark among the opposition across the eight issue areas tested in the new poll. As the events in Iran are quickly moving and the Obama administration is adjusting its response, some poll internals may be suggestive: Obama scored higher on handling the situation in Iran on Saturday and Sunday than he did the first two evenings of interviewing; his approval bumped up from 49 to 57 percent.
Energy: 54 percent approve of the way Obama is handling global warming, about double the number who disapprove, 28 percent. Nearly one in five, 17 percent, expressed no opinion on the matter.
