What motivates the tea party?

The new Washington Post-ABC News poll asked a random sample of Americans what they think motivates support for the tea party. Supporters and opponents see the matter quite differently, as seen in the tables below...

Q. To what extent, if at all, do you think support for the Tea Party movement is based on [item] - a great deal, a good amount, just some or not at all? (Dark blue indicates percent saying "a great deal")

Among all adults:

Among tea party supporters:

Among tea party opponents:

Just like the virginian with the muslim hate painted truck and racist license plate tried to claim he isn't racist and just likes Nascar, these tea partiers also back down when confront.
but you get enough of them in the same room with others who think like them and the hate comes all out.
and some of them are too stupid to understand how racist they are. like the tea bagger on the news who said he doesn't like Obama "not just because he is black".

As a tea party sympathizer, I am not at all surprised by the 54% spread in the question about racial motivation. Liberals seem truly obsessed with race.

I didn't vote for President Obama (and, no, I didn't vote for the Republican, either), but one thing I will give him: he seems to have moved past race. Yes, he bows to the liberal convention every now and then, but his heart doesn't seem to be really in it.

Personally, I don't think the President thinks of himself as a "black" man or a "white" man; I think he thinks of himself as just a man.

In this one area, I couldn't agree with him more.

Like Bill Clinton, what the radical hate-filled leftists do best is project onto others their own pathologies. Hate. Racism. Despising dissent. Dislike of debating actual ideas, vs. just doing the Sharpton-Jackson dance of labeling anyone who disagrees with you as a racist.
The Boy Who Cried Wolf, meet Killing the Goose that Laid the Golden Egg. That is today's Democrat party.
They cannot even respectfully debate, using "tea baggers" instead of Tea Party. Curious, I thought all leftists loved homosexuals, yet they use a homosexual act in such a derisive tone. How odd. Maybe you neo-comms aren't quite as tolerant as you pretend to be.
Wait, tolerance is only for those who agree with you, right?
Diversity, that's only for appearances. Blacks who wander off the far-left philosophical plantation are "Uncle Toms."
Now I get it. You are so transparent.

I want to know where the tea bags were when that moron w brought this country down during 8 catastrophic years. It really is astonishing to listen to them shriek in such agony.

Hey you panchovilla, where were you when you tea bags investigated President Clinton and impeached him for having sex? You hypocrite you. Where were you when that moron w was in power and damaging things irreparably? Are you a Rip Van Winkle?

This is a stupid way for left-wing newspapers and left-wing politicians to downplay a strong right-leaning political movement. Ask people who don't know any Tea Party members what they THINK motivates Tea Party members. IDIOTS. WHY DON'T YOU ASK THE MEMBERS OF THE TEA PARTY THEMSELVES WHAT MOTIVATES THEM? Are you afraid of the truth?

All of this commentary about the Tea Party Members and Supporters makes for good filler but it is really useless and only provides a chance for opposing sides to hurl imprecations at each other. The proof will be in the elections in November 2010 and, according to almost all polls, the Democrats will suffer large losses--losses that dwarf almost all past mid term elections. That may put a temporary end to the feuding and may result in a most beneficial logjam in the Congress-just what is needed at this time. Then, when it becomes apparent that the Obama Administration has done little or nothing to put people back to work, the focus will be on Novemebr 2012!
