Fenty beckons Obama for rewrite
It's easy to see the mayor's interest here: in the late August Washington Post poll, fully 93 percent of District Democrats said they approve of the way President Obama is handling his job. That's 93 percent. It's 93 percent of those who expressed support for Fenty. And, more importantly, it's also 93 percent of those who said they would cast ballots for Fenty's main challenger, Council Chair Vincent Gray.
Although unlikely to accept the "deus ex machina" role in this play's final act, Obama himself might enjoy some respite out and about in D.C.
Citywide -- where Democrats make up a large share of residents -- 85 percent said they approve of the way he's doing his job. That big number includes a clear majority, 61 percent, who give him "strongly" positive reviews. Unlike the president's sliding numbers nationally, the D.C. figures are little changed from the start of the year.
