D.C. one of the ugliest cities in America (Yay, us!)

We think Travel + Leisure is an ugly magazine.

How rude. Travel + Leisure has deemed the population of Washington the sixth least-attractive in the country. Our residents are prettier only than the people of Orlando, Anchorage, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Memphis.

Has this magazine no shame? Don't its editors know about The Hill's most beautiful list? The Daily Beast just this year dubbed us the home of the most attractive people. We even have hot senators!

The editors of Travel + Leisure must have missed Fishbowl's Finest. Have they never seen, right here in The Washington Post's newsroom, "Handsome Dan" or Ylan Mui?

But, no, Travel + Leisure thinks, "This hotbed of culture apparently doesn't attract the hotties--unless you count lobbyists and policy wonks as hot."

Okay, fine. We may be considered the Hollywood for ugly people. But, you know what? We RELISH in our ugliness. We are ABOVE looks here. We value intelligence. And education. And Senses of Humor. We are not all Kim Kardashians!

I'm originally from the East Coast (NY) and lived in DC/MD for many years, before getting stuck on the West Coast for the last few years. Longing to return to the solidity of the East Coast, I recently visited my house in the MD suburbs and spent a couple of days revisiting my old neighborhood, restaurants, etc. in a fact finding mission to see if moving back there feels right. I agree that the people are dedicated, hard working, purposeful - but OH MY GOD I've never seen so many truly ugly and unhealthy looking people in my life. No verve. No sparkle. Nothing attractive about ANYONE ANYWHERE! What the heck! EAT A SALAD, people! Pasty complexions that need exfoliation, lifeless hair, no sparkle in the eye, no spring in the step, FAT FAT FAT, out of date, frumpy, yellow teeth -- and I could go ON AND ON. Yes, California is shallow - God knows - but at least my eyes don't hurt when I look around at the local cafe, or on the street. DC - you need a makeover - ALL OF YOU!

Beach Boys had it right when they said, "I wish they all could be California girls."
