The royal engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton might set some people's teeth on edge as Britain girds up for wedding haze, but the first televised interview introduced a happy, relaxed royal duo taking the whole thing in with stylish aplomb.

As Monica Hesse writes on the engagement: "The young lovers represent a royal redemption, a rehabilitation, a reboot from the fraught triangle of Charles and Diana and Camilla."
