Awkward Family Photo yourself
There are certain Happy Places on the Internet I go to when in need of solace from the harsh realities of the world. Awkward Family Photos is one of these places. It is a paean to the triumph of the human spirit. A balm to the evils of the world. It celebrates the binds that unite us: one people, under awkwardness, indivisible and for bad sweaters everywhere. Yes, it's that good.
The site started with two friends laughing over an old family portrait. They realized, "there were probably plenty of other people out there with their own awkward family images," and so they created the site to celebrate the best of those "uncomfortable family moments."
With a book celebrating the best of the worst, the site has partnered up with Sprint to allow everyone to share in the awkwardness. Riffing off the hugely successful "Elf Yourself" Office Max campaign last year, the site allows people to create their own awkward (see above: me in all my uncomfortable glory).
Because there is nothing more awkward than the illustrious Christmas sweater, The Post has decided to ask readers to break out the ugly and send in photos of their finest seasonal wear. The Post's Hank Stuever wrote in 2001, "Sweaters and the holiday season are tragically linked; the sweater suffers in the way the fruitcake does, unable to shed its reputation as a gift gone wrong." Send in the best photos of your sweaters here.
