Elvis birthday celebrations kick off; what's your favorite song?
(Alfred Wertheimer/Smithsonian)
On Saturday, Elvis Presley fans will mark the 76th birthday of the King. The King. The one and only lip-curling, hip-shaking King. If you believe Presley died, he left the building in 1977. I, however, like to think he's hanging out down at the bayou strumming on his guitar somewhere sultry.
This year, his annual birthday celebration, along with the usual fan festivities, saw the promised trip of one of the 33 Chilean miners, Edison Pena to Graceland. Pena would sing Elvis songs to keep up the spirits as the miners were trapped underground for 69 days last year. It looks like Pena had a good time:

To keep you dancing through the weekend, here are a few favorite songs of the old crooner. What's your favorite Elvis song?
Here are a few of mine:
Sure, he's in his sweaty, Vegas phase, but he's still got that goofy, eye-twinkling charm:

The Irish Times announces an Elvis Presley lecture by Sam Slote will be held at Trinity College Dublin Ireland on the 15 February 2011.
As for a favourite Elvis song....... "That's When Your Heartaches Begin", would be one of hundreds.
"Don't Be Cruel" is also a beauty and much more tolerated than "Hound Dog" back in those early days when a very young devastatingly handsome Elvis Rocked the whole world. What a voice!

Happy Birthday Elvis! There are way too many great Elvis songs, but my favorite has to be Suspicious Minds.
