Cisco intern raps his way to viral glory
Each intern at Cisco Systems in Silicon Valley is assigned to keep a weekly blog. Greg Justice, a social-media intern from Stanford University, decided to do his as a rap video.
He wrote a song that captures the awesomeness of retractable badges, his coffee thermos and acronyms ("CDO, EBC, GBO, and CBT, VPN, CEO, I'm soundin' like C-3PO").
He took his laptop with a built-in camera into a conference room and recorded the rap -- trying to be quiet to avoid disrupting a meeting next door. Last Friday he uploaded it onto YouTube. As of today it has gotten more than 40,000 views. "I'm far from Justin Bieber status," said Justice, 21.
"It's silly that it got that viral," Justice said Thursday. "I wasn't expecting to do interviews [with the media] in the third week of my internship."
Justice said that he has some musical experience: He was in a hip-hop group at Stanford that "failed miserably."
He hopes that this video will do one of two things: a) Score him a guest appearance on "The Colbert Report"; b) Score him a job offer.
So far all that it has done is made him a minor celeb in the halls of Cisco and at a company conference this week in Las Vegas.
"I have had a few celebrity point-outs. People see me and say, 'Oh, you're the intern!' " Justice said. "The celebrity point-outs have been the only bonus so far."
