Boston University is quickly revamping its presence online. It has moved its annual report online, beefed up coverage of itself on BUToday and redone its admissions Web site to better appeal to applicants. A Q&A with Jenny Mackintosh, who manages the university's social media.
George Washington University has formally charged three greek houses with hazing, providing alcohol to minors and underage drinking, according to the GW Hatchet. The charges were outlined in letters sent to the chapters over the weekend, following a several-months-long university investigation. The chapters charged are Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and Pi Kappa Alpha and Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternities.
Months ago, I got an e-mail from Erin Brooks, who is the media relations specialist at Harper College in Illinois, urging me to blog more about what colleges are doing with social media. So, I am launching a new, occasional series about the college and university employees behind Twitter handles, Facebook feeds and social media campaigns.
Last week University of Colorado sophomore Nic Ramos walked into the bursar's office in Boulder to pay his out-of-state tuition bill for the spring semester. Instead of a checkbook or credit card, he carried a duffel bag -- filled with $14,309.51 in dollar bills, a 50-cent piece and a penny.
Many colleges and universities have created a Twitter feed to share campus news with students, parents, alums, faculty, sports fans, journalists and everyone else. But is it worth the time? And what's the best measure of a Twitter feed's success? Is it number of followers, number of RT's, number of clicks on bit.ly links, number of interactions or something else?
