Injury Update
Already without captain Chris Clark (sprained shoulder) and starting goaltender Olie Kolzig (sprained knee), the Caps found out today that they are going to be without left wing Matt Pettinger for four to six weeks because of a broken thumb, and center Boyd Gordon for two weeks due to a...

Post Deadline Doldrums
All quiet on the Caps front today. Which is how I expect it's going to be most days between now and April 7th. Except for maybe the odd breaking news bulletin on the newest call-up from Hershey. This morning, I came across an interesting article about playoff-bound Dainius Zubrus in...

Novotny Skates
The newest member of the Caps, prospect Jiri Novotny, arrived in town early this morning and joined his teammates on the ice for practice at Kettler Capitals Iceplex this morning. Although the 23-year-old checking line center has missed the past five games with a high ankle sprain--and 11 of the...

One More Trade and Zubrus Reaction
Veteran defenseman Jamie Heward was just notified that he's been dealt to Los Angeles for a conditional draft pick in 2008. I caught him on the way to his car a few moments ago and he was excited about getting the opportunity to "extend his career". Below is some reaction...

Zubrus Traded
Zubrus is headed to Buffalo for 23-year-old center Jiri Novotny and a first round pick in 2007. The Caps also sent minor league defenseman Timo Helbling to the Sabres. More to come....

Latest on Zubrus
Well, I just spoke to Zubrus. And he doesn't think he's going to sign an extension before the deadline. He said there was some talk this morning between the Caps and his agent, but no progress was made. As I've reported, the sticking point is the length of term. He...

Zubrus Still Here
As of 12:10 p.m., trade candidate Dainius Zubrus is still a member of the Washington Capitals. Or so I think. I just saw him near the locker room talking on his cell phone, but he ducked into a room that's off limits to the media. Hopefully, I'll catch him before...

Nycholat Traded to Ottawa
The Caps just traded spare parts defenseman Lawrence Nycholat to the Senators for minor league defenseman Andy Hedlund, 28, and a sixth-round draft pick in the 2007 draft. Not a major move, and it probably won't be the last move of the sort for the Caps in the coming hours....

Zednik Traded
Richard Zednik was traded to New York Islanders moments ago for a second round draft pick in 2007. The Caps gave up a third rounder to get him from Montreal last July. So all-in-all, not a bad move for the Caps. More details as they become available....

Update on Zubrus and Zednik
Well, we're almost exactly one day away from the trade deadline, and the Caps' plans for veteran forwards Dainius Zubrus and Richard Zednik are starting to come into focus. After spending the better part of the day talking to my sources, here's what I know: veteran right wing Richard Zednik...

The Day Before Deadline Day
Caps GM George McPhee will spend the next 36 hours in the "war room" at the club's office in downtown, working the phones, conferring with his scouts and ordering take-out. He confirmed yesterday that he'll make at least one deal. But that's all he would say. When I pressed McPhee...
