Stars Poke Fun at NBA Ref Scandal

Okay, I know I just said I wouldn't be updating the blog often, but you've got to see this one (if you haven't already). Check this out from ESPN: The Dallas Stars may have already taken themselves out of the running for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy -- the NHL's...

Canada Goes Up 3-0

Canada's juniors chased Caps' prospect Simeon Varlamov from net and cruised to a 6-2 victory today in Game 3 of the Super Series. Varlamav, according to TSN's gamer, was replaced at the start of the third period. Note: I've got some other work-related stuff I'm handling this weekend, so I...

Ovechkin Update

I'm told General Manager George McPhee has looked into allegations that Alex Ovechkin punched Evgeni Malkin's agent during a recent argument at a nightclub in Russia. McPhee, through a team spokesman, said today that the alleged incident is "of no concern." I hope to know more later....

New Radio Deal For Caps

The Caps and Bonneville International have reached a two-year deal that will put all 82 games on Bonneville stations. And from the sounds of it, you may even be able to hear the broadcasts, which was a common complaint I received from fans in recent years. I'm told there could...

Fleischmann, Klepis Expected at Camp

Although forwards Tomas Fleischmann and Jakub Klepis still aren't signed, both have indicated to team officials that they'll attend training camp regardless of their contract situation. Contract negotiations are "ongoing" with both players, I'm told. That sounds to me like something is going to worked out sooner rather than later....

No Ice Girls For Caps

According to the DC Sports Bog: This is, apparently, not breaking news, but regardless, I'm here to tell you that there will be no ice-based cheer persons at Caps games this season. From PR guy Nate Ewell: "It's something that we've looked at and we're still looking at. Obviously it's...

Canada Wins Again

Canada's juniors beat Russia 3-0 to take a 2-0 lead in the Super Series. Varlamov not in goal for Russia; Godfrey was a scratch for Canada. Here's the link to Sportnet.ca's gamer....

Report: Ovechkin Punches Malkin's Agent

According to Sport-Express: Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin broke the jaw of Evgeniy Malkin's agent Gennady Ushakov. Once well-known keeper Gennady Ushakov came out to take part in a pre-season match the other day with his jaw injured. It has become known that a conflict flared up between Alexander Ovechkin...

Leonsis's Title Changing at AOL

I missed this yesterday. From Ted's Take: I have asked for and have been granted permission to use the title Vice Chairman Emeritus, AOL LLC. I am very grateful that the company has approved of this change in status for me and my family. It is now time for me...

Erskine Re-Signs

The Caps have re-signed restricted free agent defenseman John Erskine to a two-year, one-way contract that will pay him $525,000 in 2007-08 and $550,000 in 2008-09, according to my sources. I guess the Caps believe that the rugged 27-year-old still has some upside. I tend to agree, as long as...

Canada's Juniors Win Opener

Sounds like goaltending prospect Simeon Varlamov and the Russians got roughed up a little bit in today's 4-2 loss to Canada in the first game of the Super Series. From CP's gamer: Ilya Kablukov and Alexander Ryabev spotted Russia a 2-0 lead with goals within the first 10 minutes of...

"Super-Networking" at Verizon Center

Just stumbled across this interesting item in today's Post while waiting for my next flight. All I want to know is where do I sign up? Angela Drummond wants to take the idea of business-to-business schmoozing at sports events to high art. She is starting Collaborations, an ultra-exclusive corporate club...
