Capitals Insider: October 7, 2007 - October 13, 2007

Motzko Recalled; Tonight's Lineup

Forward Joe Motzko has been recalled from the Bears and is expected to join the Caps for tonight's game in Buffalo. There is no corresponding move because the team has a spot available on the roster after sending down defenseman Jeff Schultz last week. Ovechkin-Kozlov-Clark Backstrom-Nylander-Pettinger Fleischmann-Laich-Motzko Brashear-Steckel-Bradley Johnson in...

Lineup Changes Coming

While all of the details are not yet known, Coach Glen Hanlon made it sounds like the Caps are going to recall a player from Hershey today. Until we know who that player will be, it's hard to project what the lineup is going to look like. But I'm relatively...

Gordon Out, Sutherby In; Klepis Has Agreement With Bears

Sorry for the late post, but I was traveling and then had an online chat. Boyd Gordon won't be in the lineup tonight and will probably miss tomorrow's game, too. Still not sure what the injury is, but I hope to find out tonight. Whatever it is, it's not considered...

Thursday Morning Update

Center Boyd Gordon left practice with an undisclosed injury and did not return. Coach Glen Hanlon said it was for "precautionary" reasons. We're supposed to get an update on his status soon. If Gordon can't play tomorrow against the Rangers, David Steckel will replace him on the checking line and...

Klepis Gets Tryout With Bears

After failing to secure a spot on the Capials' roster, forward Jakub Klepis, who came to training camp without a contract, is close to signing a professional tryout agreement with the Bears, I'm told. The 23-year-old Czech native has practiced with the Capitals for the past week, which was kind...

Practice Update

I just caught up with McPhee and he told me Semin won't play this weekend. They hope to have him back for next Thursday's game against the Islanders. Jakub Klepis, meantime, will probably sign with Hershey and join the Bears in the coming days. Not sure what type of deal....

Semin Not Practicing (Again)

Alexander Semin is not practicing today. I have to say I'm getting a little concerned. He hasn't skated since the Carolina game, when he apparently aggravated his sprained right ankle. I haven't talked to George McPhee yet, but I would be surprised if Semin plays this weekend. Anyone who's ever...

Defenseman Jeff Schultz Headed To Hershey

Schultz made the roster out of training camp, but he hasn't played in Washington's first three games. While he'd probably prefer to stay in the NHL, the team feels it's important for him to play. So he's off to the AHL. There is no corresponding move at the moment, I'm...

DiPietro: Kozlov's Shot "Dented" My Glove.

I was just reading Newsday's Caps-Isles gamer online. Here are a couple of things I found interesting: Despite playing well above expectations last season, Poti and Kozlov were allowed to walk July 1, though both expressed a strong desire to remain on the Island. Poti was offered three years for...

Stat Of The Game

Not sure if this has already been thrown out there, but I'm told the Caps' 12 shots in today's 2-1 victory over the Islanders was the franchise's lowest shot total in a victory. Ever. The previous low was 13 in a 5-2 win over St. Louis in 1977, according to...

Semin Not Practicing

Alexander Semin, who missed Friday's opener in Atlanta with a sprained ankle, then returned for Satuday's 2-0 victory over Carolina, is not practicing with the team right now. He also only took two shifts in the third period against the Hurricanes. Matt Bradley has replaced him on the right side...
