Capitals Insider: November 11, 2007 - November 17, 2007

It's Time

Remember when I said a few weeks ago that it was too early to panic? Well, if you haven't already, it's time to reach for that button. The Caps, losers of seven of their past eight, are all alone in last place in the NHL with 13 points in 19...

Semin Back Soon; Johnson To Start

Sorry for the late entry, but I was traveling for a few hours this morning and then had to work on some stuff in the Tampa Bay dressing room after the morning skate. Anyway, here's the latest on the Caps: Coach Glen Hanlon said Alexander Semin, who has missed nearly...

Jokinen: "Everybody has to be better"

Sound familiar? That was the message Panthers' captain Olli Jokinen sent to his teammates yesterday, according to the Miami Herald. "Everybody has to be better. It's not one guy or two guys. Whatever your role is, you have to be better. You can't just sit here and say, `Oh my...

Update on Eric Fehr

I just got off the phone with GM George McPhee, who told me that Eric Fehr's hip/back ailment is "not better but not worse." The 22-year-old former first round draft pick is in Hershey, Pa., working out and getting treatment for what McPhee called "a compressed nerve." The good news?...

Ovechkin Extension (Non) Update

After practice, I caught up with Alex Ovechkin to ask him about a number of things. One of them was the status of his negotiations with the Caps on an extension. His entry-level deal expires in July, at which time he will become a restricted free agent. Nothing has changed,...

Scoring Down (Again)

Scoring isn't just down in DC, it's down around the league, according to the CP: The league was averaging 5.5 total goals per game through Monday night (not counting shootout tiebreakers), down from 5.9 through the same number of games last season and markedly down from 6.2 at the same...

Semin Skates

After missing seven games with a sprained right ankle, Semin skated on his own -- in full pads -- for abour 30 minutes before today's practice. That has to be good thing, considering I haven't seen him on skates since he tweaked the injury in St. Louis. Practice just started....

Monday Morning Update

After taking Sunday off to recover from a busy stretch, everyone is present and accounted for today. Clark is assigned to Ovechkin's line, which is a sure sign that he'll return to the lineup Thursday at Florida. Semin, though, is not on the ice and, from what I can tell,...
