Friday Morning Update
Many of the high-minute players did not skate today, so the line combos weren't easy to figure out. But here's how things should look tomorrow on Long Island: Ovechkin-Nylander-Kozlov (Boudreau hopes Nyls will get Ovechkin going 5-on-5) Fleischmann-Backstrom-Semin Pettinger-Laich-Bradley (Boudreau hopes Bradley will get Pettinger and Laich on track) Brashear-Steckel-Laing...

Pothier Out With a Broken Thumb
Defenseman Brian Pothier suffered a broken thumb in the second period and did not return. He's listed as week-to-week, but the injury is not thought to be long-term. I hope to get a little more info on him tomorrow at practice (11 a.m. at Kettler)....

George McPhee Speaks (Briefly)
After yesterday's practice, a few media types caught up with GM George McPhee for an unscheduled (and very brief) interview. But since you don't hear from him every day, I wanted to share his comments. Q: The salary cap has made it hard to pull off trades, but if you...

Injuries;Boudreau's Status;Kolzig on Simon
Everyone who's supposed to be on the ice is out there, including one surprise: Boyd Gordon, who's been sidelined the past nine games with a broken right hand. Gordon is not assigned to a line, but he's doing all the drills and taking shots. He's avoiding contact, though. This is...

Caps' Confidence Gets a Boost
Okay, I've got to admit that I'm surprised (stunned, even) by last night's performance by the Caps. Yep, they are still in last place in the Eastern Conference after a 4-3 shootout loss in Detroit, but take a look at the standings. Considering that miserable start ... In the dressing...

Tonight's Lineup and Other Stuff
The forward combos and pairings appear to be the same for tonight's game against the NHL-leading Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. Looks like Kolzig will face Hasek in net. Joe Louis brought back memories for a few guys at the morning skate, but especially for Bruce Boudreau and Brent...

A.O. Speaks With Motor City Media
Thanks to my delayed departure out of Tampa, I was able to join Alex Ovechkin's conference call with the Detroit media a few minutes ago. Ovechkin will be playing at Joe Louis Arena for the first time tomorrow night against the league-leading Red Wings, and the local reporters had lots...

Day Off In Detroit
The Caps are off today, and so am I. Detroit is getting hammered by a winter storm right now, so I'm not sure I'm even getting out of Tampa. Wish me luck and check back tomorrow for the latest from Joe Louis Arena (assuming, that is, I get there.)...
