Capitals Insider: February 3, 2008 - February 9, 2008

Lineup Shakeup for Caps

In the wake of last night's 2-1 loss to Carolina, Coach Bruce Boudreau has shuffled the lineup and realigned the power play units. Here are the new forward combos: Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov (back together again) Fleischmann-Laich-Semin (Laich promoted again) Brashear/Laing-Steckel-Bradley (Laing odd man out?) Pettinger-Gordon-Fehr (Fehr dropped) Defenseman John Erskine, who left...

Pre-Game Notes and Tonight's Lineup vs. Carolina

Brent Johnson will oppose Cam Ward in goal tonight against Carolina in what's likely the biggest game of the Caps' season so far. It's Johnson's sixth start (and seventh appearance) in the past 12 games. Meantime, Matt Pettinger and Steve Eminger will be the healthy scratches. Forwards: Ovechkin-Backstrom-Fehr Fleischmann-Kozlov-Semin Laing-Steckel-Bradley...

What Are The Chances?

I just took a look at the remaining schedules for the four teams (Washington, Carolina, Atlanta and Florida) fighting for the Southeast Division title. And you know what? It's difficult to say who has the hardest (or easiest) road the rest of the way. The Caps have played the fewest...

McPhee: Caps Will Stand Pat

I didn't manage to squeeze a whole lot of info out of GM George McPhee before yesterday's game in Philadelphia, but I figured you may be interested in what he had to say. So here it is: Q: What's the status of Chris Clark (groin tendon) and Brian Pothier (concussion)?...

Where It All Started

Tonight, Bruce Boudreau and the Caps return to place where their improbable run started. Boudreau's first game behind the bench was here at Wachovia Center on Nov. 23. No one knew what to expect as the Caps shuffled into the building that Friday afternoon. Not Boudreau. Not the players. But...

Steckel Comes Home (Sort of); Tonight's Lineup

While tonight's game in Columbus is big for the Caps, it's absolutely huge for David Steckel, who played four years at Ohio State just down the road. The checking line center said he's got more than two dozen friends and family members coming to Nationwide Arena to see him play...

Fehr Recalled, On First Line

In desperate need of some secondary scoring after being shutout for the second time in three games on Saturday, the Caps recalled prospect Eric Fehr from Hershey today. The 6-foot-4, 212-pound right wing, who missed 10 months with a mysterious back ailment, has been assigned to the first line with...
