i wonder if they had a morning skate, if it was optional and if ovi was there :)

Ovechkin goal in the 1st period? Has to be the first of the year

Posted by: patljr7 | January 30, 2011 4:45 PM | Report abuse

Ok, so since Ovie plays well with Kessler and Sedin, maybe we can trade Perrault, Holtby, and throw in Knuble to Vancouver for Kessler and Sedin and put them on line 1 and move nicky to line 2 with Semin...

PERFECT!!!

(OBVIOUSLY I AM KIDDING)....

Posted by: MattBradley10 | January 30, 2011 5:05 PM | Report abuse

I find it interesting that the poll in the last thread Ovie was still voted hardest to stop. Even with how much he has struggled and how good Stamkos has been in TB.

Posted by: icehammer97 | January 30, 2011 5:07 PM | Report abuse

Anyone else see the ASG Skills Competition Pics on ESPN? The last one with Staal setting up the board has Green listed as a Defenceman OR Right Wing. Interesting.

(It's all I got when I don't have cable to watch the game...

Posted by: armonroe | January 30, 2011 5:46 PM | Report abuse

One thing that carried over from regular season to all star game is Ovie's 2 minute shifts, I feel bad for the guy who has to come on for him.

Posted by: TheSmurfs | January 30, 2011 6:06 PM | Report abuse

The Ovechtrick- 9 goals in 1 year.

Congrats ovie!

And now I know why green and optional are terrible. they play every game like it's an All-Star game.

zzzzzzzzzzzz

ov throws his stick........what a dork off he is

Posted by: wendel2 | January 30, 2011 6:29 PM | Report abuse

What a joke. Our "captain" is an embarassment.

I the "ovechstock" has been going down all year and it's about to hit a new low.

Posted by: SoaringCaps | January 30, 2011 6:29 PM | Report abuse

I have always said, this whole game is a "show" for Optional. He has no respect for the game.

Throwing his stick in one of the biggest stages for the NHL is a complete and utter classless move.

This will certainly drop his stock amongst respect from his team.

Posted by: SoaringCaps | January 30, 2011 6:33 PM | Report abuse

@TheSmurfs Actually he is just over a minute and taking shorter shifts then about 60% of his team.

As for the throwing the stick , he is having fun people, it is an All-Star game, guys are joking around, critizing someone in a freaking All-Star game is just looking for a reason to not like the guy.

Posted by: icehammer97 | January 30, 2011 6:34 PM | Report abuse

@icehAammer ...maybe be he should throw the stick in the crowd...dah u cant defend such ahole behaviour

Posted by: wendel2 | January 30, 2011 6:38 PM | Report abuse

Sinkcaps: You make me SICK!!! Don't ever call Ovi your Captain. You are an IDIOT!!!

Posted by: fanohock1 | January 30, 2011 6:44 PM | Report abuse

@icehammer...

Respect the game, or don't play it.

Fun is one thing, but doing something classless like throwing your stick is another.

Maybe he should stage a "playfight"...or throw his glove up when he's on a breakaway...

What he did, is something Sean Avery would do...

Posted by: SoaringCaps | January 30, 2011 6:44 PM | Report abuse

I agree with ice, this game is all about having fun, this is the time they can experiment with different things without affecting your team in the standings. Give the guys a break, they're enjoying themselves!

Posted by: REST0NCAPSFAN | January 30, 2011 6:44 PM | Report abuse

Captain Kirk: Shame on you for changing your colors to be accepted in here. You were one of the kool-aiders and now you have sold out by making comments about Ovi and stealing the "optional" thing from ogther so called fans. When the Caps start lighting the lamp, because the chances are there, they just aren't bagging the opportunities, I don't want to see all you dorks come back on here woohooing.

Posted by: fanohock1 | January 30, 2011 6:47 PM | Report abuse

Team Staal would be winning by 3-4 goals if they stopped making the extra pass to get Skinner, who may be 12 years old, a goal....but again, who cares.

I actually thought Ovie throwing his stick was kind of funny and so did the others out there.....actually, it likely saved a goal as Henrik stopped the penalty shot.

It's the same as if a SS in an all-star game threw his glove in the air to stop a line drive...It's really not a big deal at all and kind of amusing.

Posted by: MattBradley10 | January 30, 2011 6:48 PM | Report abuse

You are right FANOHOCK...

Optional is NOT my captain.

My captain would be a positive role model on and off the ice. Someone who represents the organization with class whenever on the ice. A true leader who would lead by example.

Optional is a great talent. Not a leader. Not a captain.

Sorry...I'm sure you will go cry in your pillow after reading this.

Posted by: SoaringCaps | January 30, 2011 6:49 PM | Report abuse

All Star game people...really? You are gong to complain about OV just goofing off like lot of other players.Who cares, just enjoy the game and shut up!

Posted by: Bobby894 | January 30, 2011 6:51 PM | Report abuse

So when Nolan pointed and then scored on Hasek a while back was he not respecting the game? Everyone loved that he 'called his shot.' He clearly didn't throw it hard where it could have hurt anyone, none of the players looked like they didn't think it was such a horrible thing.

This is nothing more then a goal scoring event for the fans that is not anything close to real hockey. Guys are doing spins and going between the legs almost every rush and doing things that they would never do in a game.

What is next are you guys going to compain about him not backchecking in this game?

Posted by: icehammer97 | January 30, 2011 6:51 PM | Report abuse

Soaringcaps: Respect for the game? You have no idea what the heck you are talking about. They are ALL playing pond hockey you jerk. Has Ovi ever thrown his stick in a real game? Rhetorical, unless of course you don't know. If you don't the answer is no, he hasn't. Ovi is giving the fans what they want. He has passed on many shots to set other guys up, including Staal at the end of his shift in the 2nd. Respect the game...maybe you need to respect talent.

Posted by: fanohock1 | January 30, 2011 6:52 PM | Report abuse

On another note...

Why is Skinner playing? He isn't even the best rookie?

I mean, I certainly wish I was him, but seriously...there was nobody else to play in this game?

Posted by: SoaringCaps | January 30, 2011 6:53 PM | Report abuse

Hammer...pointing did not draw a penalty shot.

I'm not disappointed with the passing or even Optional making a move at the blue line that led to that breakway. That is all part of showing off moves and having fun.

Throwing your stick, come on. That's a little too far...

Posted by: SoaringCaps | January 30, 2011 6:56 PM | Report abuse

Team Staal needs BACKSTROM!!!

Actually, looks like the captains did a really good job drafting as the teams are basically even.

Posted by: MattBradley10 | January 30, 2011 6:56 PM | Report abuse

Soaringcaps, or should I say Sinkingcaps? Well, if Ovi isn't your Captain you aren't a Caps fan because he IS our Captain. If he ticks you off so bad, leave, pick another team. Based on what you say in here I don't even think you have been a Caps fan, let alone a hockey fan, very long at all. Disgusting effort by the so-called all-stars. 21 goals? They suck.

How about Ovie texting during the entire draft? That shows a lot of class for a captain of a team. Didn't see any other players acting that way. No wonder Maxime Talbot called him a d-bag.

Last 2 comments:

1 - Anyone notice that the only person not friendly or joking during interviews or even smiling at all during the game was Carey Price. He looks like a he's a jerk.

2 - I know they won the cup last year, but how did the Hawks ever lose a game??? Kane, Toews, Keith, Sharp, Buff....WOW!! That's 5 legit stars on 1 team.

Wow, Hunter accumlated the 2nd most penalty minutes by any player in the history of the NHL and Ovi is the dirtbag Captain. How many of you know who Hunter injured after the player scored at the end of another playoff run? Who did he injure and what happened to Hunter the following season. Don't insult me and google it.

Posted by: fanohock1 | January 30, 2011 7:07 PM | Report abuse

Just to save you new Caps fans who hear about Hunter's leadership compared to Ovi from having to google the answer I'll tell you. He injured Pierre Turgeon when he scored at the end of the game when Islanders eliminated us from the playoffs. Hunter promptly chased him down and cross-check with from behind into the boards. Turgeon missed about 12 playoff games and Hunter was suspended for the 1st 21 games the following season. The Versus crew seems to think that Ovi did a great job entertaining the fans.

I don't know about anyone else, but between the Draft, Superskills and the game itself, I truly enjoyed watching these guys having so much fun when they are "let off the leash". It's nice to see this side of the players, and it gives you a better respect for other guys across the league.

P.Sharp as MVP? Several players had better games, particularly Weber, 4 points and plus 6. I think broadcasters influenced results by misreporting Sharp's stats and fact that both he and Perry wore number 10. Let experts pick MVP.

You're overreacting just a touch. Nobody agrees with you. Get over it. The game meant nothing more a few commercials and scrimmage style highlight plays.

Re: Ovi throwing his stick - I thought it was funny. Glad to see he defended his breakaway title too. Go #8.

Posted by: SirPelleas | January 30, 2011 8:42 PM | Report abuse

hey fanocock,

you're as BAD as sinkingcaps, don't you ever think you're a better fan than people like him when you start insulting #32.

Posted by: joek443 | January 30, 2011 9:20 PM | Report abuse

I thought the stick thing was funny. I think Ovi could have actually caught up with him and done a back check but this is the all star game and its about fun.

Did you notice the players laughing it up? They seemed to get it. Sorry some of you Pens fans are posting like you are constipated tonight.

To Ovi-haters:

Ovi is having fun with you every time you watch him.

P.S. If you feel sorry for Crosby it is no excuse for the lack of sense of humour
:-))
