Alzner Hurt

From the department of "You Can't Be Serious", rookie defenseman Karl Alzner did not play in the third period after getting plastered along the boards Derick Brassard. Alzner immediately looked like he suffered an arm injury of some sort, perhaps a shoulder.

After the game, Alzner would only refer to his injury as "it". But he did say he hopes "it" is not serious and will allow him to practice on Monday, which is when the team will likely update his status.

Alzner's absence left the Capitals with only five defensemen for the final 20 minutes, and adds to the team's injury woes. They played tonight's game without seven regulars who appeared on the opening night roster.

Tonight sucked. Oh well. That's why there are 82 games in a season. Go out and play better next time.

"it" may be the catch phrase we use all year long.

I really am starting to like this kid. Hope he is okay and that I get to see him on Monday night.

Why is it that the Caps and Hokies never seem to win on the same night/weekend? I don't know who to root for next Saturday.

Really hope that I get to see him, Green, and Semin on Monday! Can somene at least give me Thursday?

The guys played tired tonight.

I really do not believe this.

So who is next on the D list, Godfrey maybe? I have not been to a Bears game this season so I'm just speculating. Anyone?

Where have you gone, Bill Houlder?

The problem is, Hershey's got its own injury laden d-corp (or did--not sure who's healed yet). GMac's out with a broken hand (or something like that), Sean Collins is out with something (concussion, flu, groin, etc), Arsene's out with something,
The only guys left are Amadio, who's not bad, but is also the protector of the talent up there with GMac out; Pokulok, who we all know; P. McNeill, not sure about him, but he didn't do anything really stupid when I saw him play; Godfrey, good from the point, but not quite up there d-wise; and Wellar, who Hershey just signed, and as Tess posted, picked up in a Rite Aid parking lot on their way to play Albany.
Tess might be a better informant on the Hershey D situation, but there's got to be a point where they can no longer support us pulling from their stock.
I'd wait til Monday, though, before we officially request a name change from the league to the Washington Bears.

I can't wait to see how TSN power-ranks us this week. After that road trip, we were 11th, with "key injuries Semin & Green". I wonder at what number they just give up and declare every injury "key". Maybe they just put a link to the roster after the Injuries heading.
Gotta love it when you don't get any credit whatsoever for missing a huge chunk of your roster.
Am I really supposed to care about Brian Burke? I'm certain this affects my life as a hockey fan somehow, but I just can't seem to wrap my brain around it. Who cares??

One last bit from me before bed. A small piece on Laich from the game against the Kings.

Thanks. I guess I was thinking like a GM and forecasting in case we had to make a call. Monday it is, I guess.

collins is back in the looks like oyur options are p. mcniell, or amadio...right now amadio is playin like a man on fire, blocking everything, and he scored his first 2 goals of the seaosn tonight. but like someone else said hes our only tough guy to protect our team. who knows maybe alzner will be alright, as long as they dont recall anyone til monday well be alright.

berasfan26 (& any other informed person): What was the "Misconduct - Abuse of officials" call against Syvret?

Posted by: uncatim | November 29, 2008 10:44 PM | Report abuse

Syvret was yelling at the ref. And looked like he was going to go after the ref but I never seen him touch the ref.So I guess it was more his mouth.

After suffering through the litany of injuries the Nationals had last season, I never thought there could be a situation that could come close to that. Right now, the Caps are losing the war of attrition. When will the carnage end?

Thanks cocorules.

They did look tired. Oh and, BTW, you've been called up!! You'll be centering Erskine and Helmer. ;-)

@jmu and others:
As for defensemen, Amadio or Godfrey might be the only two I would even remotely consider moving up if Alzner can't go. But as pointed out, we don't want to give you Amadio. He's our only enforcer right now. Bears play Norfolk Sunday night and then are off till the weekend, so a callup for a game or two wouldn't affect us too much. If you want to see more about Amadio, go to
this link, click on VOD (video on demand) and scroll down to Nov 20: Amadio Mic'd Up. The fight that you see in the video is Grant McNeil, Amadio's voice in the background.

I thought the curse only applied to Les Boulez? The hell is going on?

Posted by: ThisGuy | November 30, 2008 12:55 AM | Report abuse

bring back JF Fortin, or Jakub Cutta. Ok, I'm not serious, let's just bring back Boomer. Wait, he's on the Toronto Marlies. Doh.
