Another Coaching Staff Change For Caps

The Caps have made another change on the coaching staff, cutting loose video coach Jonas Plumb. He spent one year in the position.

The move comes two weeks after the team parted ways with assistant coach Jay Leach, who had spent five years with Washington.

Both coaching positions remain open.

Thanks for the updates Wocoliz.

Go Bears!

Posted by: pstenigma | June 6, 2009 8:32 PM | Report abuse

go bears. and wings. Datsyuk is back and it's 1:0.

Posted by: fnralch | June 6, 2009 8:40 PM | Report abuse

What is a video coach? I thought that the goalie guy who dressed for one guy was the video coach.

Posted by: MKadyman | June 6, 2009 8:41 PM | Report abuse

GMUCAPS, no problem--glad to do it. Just wish I could be up there instead of listening on sportsjuice. GO BEARS!!!

Posted by: wocoliz | June 6, 2009 8:42 PM | Report abuse

for one game.

Posted by: MKadyman | June 6, 2009 8:42 PM | Report abuse

Kunitz got called for goaltender interference? It can't be. The dude threw an elbow and NBC is in shock. Christ.

Posted by: saintex | June 6, 2009 8:50 PM | Report abuse

Nice job, Bears!

And, by the way, Pavel is back!!! An assist on the Wings goal.

His absence was keenly felt. (I'm basically saying a line spoke about the absence of another Pavel; i.e. Pavel Chekov who was in sickbay in the Star Trek episode, "The Tholian Web". Line spoken by Spock.)

@hockeytownUSA (from previous thread)

Yes, most of Caps nation is behind the Wings. Most of us Caps fans really despise the Penguins. Plus, we believe Detroit seems like a better organization than the Pens organization.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | June 6, 2009 9:03 PM | Report abuse

MKadyman, Brett Leonhardt is the video guy for the Caps' website who dressed as goalie in case Theodore got injured. The video coach I presume takes care of footage to show the team for examples on how to improve or what to look for.

Posted by: GMUCAPS | June 6, 2009 9:04 PM | Report abuse

@saintex

The refs are learning what a weasel Kunitz is. (Well, what do you expect from a guy whose last name literally means "marten", a type of weasel?)

Posted by: CapsFan75 | June 6, 2009 9:04 PM | Report abuse

Detroit 2:0

Posted by: fnralch | June 6, 2009 9:11 PM | Report abuse

Laing with the empty netter to make it 3-0. Hope game 4 goes this well tomorrow afternoon!

Posted by: wocoliz | June 6, 2009 9:14 PM | Report abuse

It's official--Bears win 3-0. A happy sports day for me so far, with the Bears winning, the Wings up 2-0, and the Nats beat the Mets 7-1.

Posted by: wocoliz | June 6, 2009 9:17 PM | Report abuse

Detroit responds to Bears' win with 3:0! GO WINGS. and Bears.

Posted by: fnralch | June 6, 2009 9:20 PM | Report abuse

3-0 Wings is even better. Nice goal!

Posted by: wocoliz | June 6, 2009 9:20 PM | Report abuse

Big win for the Bears and another big game again tomorrow!

Posted by: MReilly9 | June 6, 2009 9:22 PM | Report abuse

Yea, Bears!!!

Go Wings! Another PP goal!

Posted by: pstenigma | June 6, 2009 9:25 PM | Report abuse

And the good times just keep coming. 4-0 Red Wings!

Posted by: wocoliz | June 6, 2009 9:26 PM | Report abuse

4-0 Wings. Finally the refs are calling the penalties against the Penguins!

Posted by: sparks3 | June 6, 2009 9:27 PM | Report abuse

The refs are finally starting to call penalties on the Pens for some reason,(besides the fact that they have only called about 10% of the actual infractions that they have committed during the playoffs this year).

Posted by: MReilly9 | June 6, 2009 9:29 PM | Report abuse

How pathetic is Kunitz and the Pens? What a stupid penalty to take. Wings on the PP - Drive for 5!

Posted by: MReilly9 | June 6, 2009 9:38 PM | Report abuse

5-0 Wings.

Posted by: MReilly9 | June 6, 2009 9:39 PM | Report abuse

Goalie Change!

Posted by: sparks3 | June 6, 2009 9:40 PM | Report abuse

Gotta love 5-0, especially because of such a stupid penalty. Go Wings!

Posted by: wocoliz | June 6, 2009 9:40 PM | Report abuse

Neuvy is so awesome!

Posted by: rachel216 | June 6, 2009 9:43 PM | Report abuse

And Golden Boy thought he was being so tricky. And now it's 5 on 3. Nice class you're showing, Pens.

Posted by: wocoliz | June 6, 2009 9:47 PM | Report abuse

Pens have totally lost control.

Posted by: sparks3 | June 6, 2009 9:50 PM | Report abuse

And I do enjoy the chant.

Posted by: sparks3 | June 6, 2009 9:51 PM | Report abuse

got love the chant crosby sucks crosby sucks.. rocking the red at the joe

Posted by: samb99 | June 6, 2009 9:51 PM | Report abuse

Going after a guys foot with a slash when you know it is broken is pretty low class stuff.

Posted by: overhead | June 6, 2009 9:52 PM | Report abuse

Pens are finally playing in a game with fair officating and it is not a pretty picture for them.

Posted by: MReilly9 | June 6, 2009 9:52 PM | Report abuse

They really don't seem able to handle having penalties called on them, do they?

Posted by: wocoliz | June 6, 2009 9:52 PM | Report abuse

I liked the image of the guy holding a Penguin doll on a string while his date batted it around.

Posted by: FloridaCapsFan | June 6, 2009 9:54 PM | Report abuse

Kunitz is such a tool that I wouldn't be surprised if he is benched for the third period. They should also probably bench Shrek as well or he may have another tantrum and get suspended for game 6).

Posted by: MReilly9 | June 6, 2009 9:57 PM | Report abuse

I seem to recollect we handled ourselves better in our game 7 against the Penguins (when the score was 4-0 or worse).

Posted by: FloridaCapsFan | June 6, 2009 10:02 PM | Report abuse

Sparks3 - JINX!

Posted by: cougcap | June 6, 2009 10:04 PM | Report abuse

I really hate the sneaky stuff like Crosby's slash. If you're gonna slash somebody, be a man about it--don't peek to see if the ref's looking first.

Posted by: wocoliz | June 6, 2009 10:04 PM | Report abuse

I hope the Wings keep going for it and get the shut out.

Posted by: FloridaCapsFan | June 6, 2009 10:05 PM | Report abuse

I love it! A parade of Penguins going to the penalty box today. Well deserved!

Posted by: CapsFan75 | June 6, 2009 10:17 PM | Report abuse

@wocoliz

I agree with you. A great day in sports. Hershey wins. Detroit is beating the Pens. The Nats won. And my daughter's swim team won as well.

Where are the trolls tonight, hiding?

Posted by: MReilly9 | June 6, 2009 10:19 PM | Report abuse

Poor baby Malkin is frustrated and takes a penalty...so sad...

Posted by: MReilly9 | June 6, 2009 10:20 PM | Report abuse

Penalty on MERKIN!

Posted by: cougcap | June 6, 2009 10:20 PM | Report abuse

Malkin goes to the box -- again!

Posted by: CapsFan75 | June 6, 2009 10:21 PM | Report abuse

BTW, Malkin had more minutes in the penalty box this year than Semin.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | June 6, 2009 10:22 PM | Report abuse

The trolls have been refreshingly quiet. Guess they don't want to hang out here unless they can gloat about something.

(Another good piece of sports news for me--the US men's national soccer team just beat Honduras 2-1 to get closer to qualifying for next year's World Cup.)

Posted by: wocoliz | June 6, 2009 10:25 PM | Report abuse

Somebody please wiki Merkin - am I the only one that thinks this should be 71's nick name?

Posted by: cougcap | June 6, 2009 10:28 PM | Report abuse

@MReilly9 and @wocoliz

Note, how the trolls stay away when things are going well for us (and bad for the Pens).

By the way, the Anaheim Ducks don't allow trolls on their boards. They say their boards are for Duck fans to discuss the team. I tried to register (to see what Duck fans would think about a certain proposed trade that I don't agree with) and my E-mail address was rejected. So was my alternate one. (Am I identified as a Caps fan so I can't register for another team's board?)

Posted by: CapsFan75 | June 6, 2009 10:30 PM | Report abuse

Cougcap, it's an interesting suggestion. Not an appealing thought personally, but very interesting.

Posted by: wocoliz | June 6, 2009 10:37 PM | Report abuse

one more...pizza...pizza...pizza!

Posted by: MReilly9 | June 6, 2009 10:43 PM | Report abuse

I have really enjoyed watching the Pens implode tonight. One stupid penalty after another--I love it!

Posted by: wocoliz | June 6, 2009 10:43 PM | Report abuse

Well, guess who went to the box again. Malkin, who gets penalized more than Semin. And now Cooke gets a game misconduct. Me thinks the Pens are more than a little bit frustrated.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | June 6, 2009 10:45 PM | Report abuse

So - will there be another game in Detroit or is that it? Go Wings!

Posted by: MReilly9 | June 6, 2009 10:45 PM | Report abuse

How many game misconduct penalties did Pitt get today? 3 in all. You heard right. 3 game misconducts. While Malkin ends up out of the game because he gets still another minor penalty with less than 2 minutes left to go.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | June 6, 2009 10:47 PM | Report abuse

Well, it turns out Talbot got a game misconduct penalty also. So their count is up to 4.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | June 6, 2009 10:51 PM | Report abuse

Wolcoliz - it started as a play on the amateurish beards but then my 15 year old looked it up and thought I was a genius. I'll float it again next spring if the pinz make another run from tenth in the final month.

Posted by: cougcap | June 6, 2009 10:52 PM | Report abuse

Will the Pens have any suspended players for next game?

Posted by: MReilly9 | June 6, 2009 10:54 PM | Report abuse

Great game, Detroit!

Posted by: pstenigma | June 6, 2009 10:55 PM | Report abuse

the video coach job is actually a lot tougher than you would think. Jonas spent hours putting together clips from other teams before each game for the team to review before playing. During the game Bruce and the other coaches relayed information to him to put clips together during each game to watch during intermission. And of course, theres always the necessary highlight reels for some of the players. Caps really lost out by not having two video coaches like most NHL teams do. Hope Jonas ends up with another NHL team instead of returning to the WHL Giants.

New thread, everyone--Tarik's got comments from Hershey.

After watching the ferocity and teamwork of Detroit, who don't have the stars of the Caps or Pittsburgh---Let's just say something needs to change.

Posted by: SarahKate | June 6, 2009 11:22 PM | Report abuse

Sorry to see Jonas go. He was a good guy and the only one I could go up to and say "My Name is Jonas!" (Weezer).
