Backstrom On the Ice (Updated)

As of late yesterday afternoon, the word on center Nicklas Backstrom was that he wasn't going to skate today because of his sprained right ankle. No need to rush him, Coach Bruce Boudreau said.

Then I get to the rink this morning and what do I see? Backstrom on the ice, participating in drills.

So I guess he's ready to go. Good news for the Caps, indeed.

Update:Perhaps the Backstrom optimism was a bit premature. He's already come off the ice, after about 30 minutes.

Something else notable: the players' white undershirts have the words, 'Good, but not good enough' written on the back.

Sweet. Hopefully he doesn't aggravate it or anything.

Who are the invites from rookie camp?

Hopefully that means he's actually ready to go. It would be a bad mistake for him to reinjure it 3 weeks before the real season starts. Glad he's skating though, if he's ok, we need Backs to be in good shape for the start of the year.

About the undershirts, that's pretty cool. Hopefully it works to motivate them even more.

Tarik, what rookies stuck around for the big camp? Everyone that wasn't listed on the minor moves post?

Anyone dogging it in the drills? In other words, does anyone look out of shape? How does Alzner look with the big kids?

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP)—Alex Ovechkin strolled into the Washington Capitals’ practice facility to report for training camp Friday, wearing a tight-fitting tank top, faded camouflage shorts and flip-flops.

A little while later, the NHL’s reigning MVP swapped that outfit for team-issued red mesh shorts and a bright, white T-shirt reading, “The Future is Now” in red on the front and “Good is Not Good Enough” on the back.

Steve R is there and wants to know who's there blog wise

That is a great thing to see. I like how the players are all buying into the theme..."Good is Not Good Enough". This is the type of thing that real pro teams can really get behind and use as a motivating theme. I'm so psyched for the season. I'd love to see semin and ovechkin each have over 50 goals...

To keep the century theme (50+ for OV & Sasha), over 100 points for the Caps!

Work would be a lot less boring if there was something to read about today's camp. Just a suggestion =P

@Tarik

Was Backstrom just testing the ankle, or did he aggravate it?

Hey Tarik,

Any thoughts on when your Friday chats will start up again?

I'm glad the Caps are taking it easy with Backstrom.
And Kudos to the Caps for streaming the rookie game(especially on a flier smacdown).
Tarik , can you please pass along how neat that was? Maybe they can stream a practice or two, with commentators' anlysis. :)

Notes from practice:

-Saw Backstrom on the ice in Orange but I am not sure if he was just testing it out or left because of injury. I will leave that one to Tarik.

-Me, Jschon and Stevie were there chatting and having a good time. Didn't see anyone else.

-Katie is a cool girl. Very knowledgable!!! which is really cool to talk to a girl with a great grasp on the game.

-Met Tarik for the first time and he called me a jerk......Ouch!!!!!!

-E Fehr and Steckel looked very crisp today and Fehr looks like he wants a sweater.

-The goalies looked great, especially Varlomov and No way Jose...

I will leave the rest to Jschon to throw out.
