Beagle and Theodore in, Kozlov and Nylander out
The latest from Verizon Center:
*Jay Beagle was recalled and will replace Viktor Kozlov in the lineup today against the visiting Panthers, Coach Bruce Boudreau said. Kozlov's groin, the muscle that caused him to miss nine games, tightened up in Boston yesterday.
"I told him that he's not going to win the scoring championship this year, so we want to make sure [Kozlov] is ready to play Tuesday," Boudreau said. "I don't think another two days off, when you've missed nine games, would be a bad thing."
*Michael Nylander will be a scratch for the third consecutive game, while Staffan Kronwall will be a game-time decision because one of the Caps' defensemen is nursing an injury after yesterday's game. Boudreau wouldn't say which defenseman is hurting, but I do seem to remember Mike Green getting blown up along the boards in Boston.
"There's somebody else who might be a little banged up," is all Boudreau would say.
*Jose Theodore will make his second start in two games.
*Asked about the Bill Guerin to Washington rumors -- which one of my sources shot down this morning -- Boudreau said: "We have Kozlov, Semin, Fehr, Bradley and Gordon as our right side. I think that's pretty good."
*Boudreau also responded to comments made yesterday by Don Cherry and Bruins Coach Claude Julien. I'll have that in a separate post.

Interesting that Nylander is out, while Beags comes in.. Maybe Caps are trying to showcase Beagle for a trade, or Nyls is already on his way out.

Forcing Nyls to 'reconsider' his NTC. No more games played this year (even in playoff) is a big price to pay and hard for him to overcome (for next contract with another team).
GMGM is a hard bargin kind of guy and if he wants/needs to trade Nyls, then the 'no play' card is one administrative tool he can use.

Nyls has value and can play, without his NTC, he would be certain to be dealt and would make some other team better.

From the other thread, Don Cherry is a clown and while he has a certain entertainment value, nobody should mistake him for part of the "hockey establishment". His outrageous outfits are as serious as his often stupid opinions. He does whatever he does to stir up controversy and keep his job. There will always be a place for clowns in this world, even in hockey, but not in serious discussions.

Nylander makes 5 mil a year. Which GM out there is stupid enough to pay that for him?

I'm a little surprised that Jose is starting back to back days, especially with travel between games.

Nyles 3 in a row w/ a healthy scratch and recalling a minor leaguer = you are not welcome here no more (yeah double negative)

Nyls can still play, somebody will take him. Wait and see. He has an upside, just not showing it here. Not too long ago, he was our best center.

Slats does not have the cap room, which one of his slackers would we get?

$5,000,000.00 is a LOT of upside! Good luck

Nylander was good and brave for the Caps. I'll bet he's still good for Backstrom. Caps'll end up eating some of his salary, and Nyls' production will shoot up.

we have to attempt to do a better job of discouraging teams from taking huge runs at Mike Green. This is the 2nd straight game he has been "blown up". He's going to end up injured badly if this keeps happening. No one takes huge runs at guys like Timmonen or Bouwmeester the way they run Green.
