Bog boredom buster: Rolling Stone disses the Caps
Dan Steinberg throws us a bone with his latest post, in which he takes issue with this statement in a Rolling Stone article that's supposed to rip on the Skins but ends up trashing the Caps in the process:
You have a responsibility to deliver as a football owner when you live in a city whose only other diversions are a basketball team that used to be called the Bullets and a once-good baseball team that used to be called the Montreal Expos (before someone decided to douse its players in [stink] juice, dress them up in bright-red uniforms that appeared to have been stolen off the backs of two-and-a-half-star-hotel bell captains, and bus them to Washington). The Redskins are the only real pro-sports franchise in the nation's capital....
Steinberg's response:
Say huh what duh guh huh? The Caps are the only Big 4 pro team to advance in the playoffs since 2005. In their last full season, they outdrew the Wiz and the Skins for the first time since FedEx and the Verizon Center opened. They've gotten better local TV ratings than the Wiz and the Nats. Their superstar is almost universally acknowledged to be D.C.'s most popular athlete. But they're not a real pro-sports franchise?

Don't waste your time on this. Simply another example of non-hockey people dissing the sport and not including it in their realm of major sports. Who needs 'em! Nascar went out it's way the past decade to bring in new fans and make itself be considered a "major sport", but in the process they alienated much of their original fan base. Let hockey be enjoyed by those who love it, otherwise we may end up with more games on NBC with a gazillion commercials and talking heads like Bob Costas yapping non-stop.

As a Nats and Caps season ticket holder, I really am offended.
Any word from Tiger Beat or 16 Magazine on what they think the chances are of Ovechkin's injury improving or the Nats getting any starting pitching?
