Boudreau: 'We're glad it's over'

Soon after the Washington Capitals wrapped up of their franchise-best regular season with a 4-3 loss to Boston at Verizon Center, Coach Bruce Boudreau began looking ahead to the playoffs, although the opponent won't be decided until after this afternoon's game between the Rangers and Flyers at Wachovia Center in Philadelphia.

A Flyers win means the Capitals would play Montreal. A New York victory would make the Rangers the No. 8 seed and Washington's first-round opponent.

Here's what Boudreau had to say about the playoffs finally arriving:

This Rags/Flyer game is really sloppy, and the Rags look out of it as a whole. Despite the lead.

Lame way to end season (in a shootout loss).

I hope Flash and Fehr are well rested and raring to go for the playoffs (after being scratched today.) Our PP hasn't been that good in the last two games. Then again, our 2nd PP unit cast of characters have been our scratches in the last two games. (Knuble on Friday and then Flash and Fehr today.)

Time to step it up for the playoffs, boys. Lets's go Caps.

@richmondphil

Is Lundqvist playing out of his mind or what? Or do the Flyers just not have any offense today. BTW, I'm not watching the game.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | April 11, 2010 4:27 PM | Report abuse

Philly getting shutout so far. But we've always been able to beat Lundy... I'd rather face Halak but then again the Canadiens have a good PP and Theo up in Bell Centre does worry me a bit.

I think I'll say GO RANGERS...

Posted by: rachel216 | April 11, 2010 4:30 PM | Report abuse

Lundy + the crossbar/posts. Philly are taking all kinds of shots.

Current shot count is 13-25 Flyers, but at the end of the 1st it was like 4-18 Flyers.

Capsfan75: Philly is outshooting the Rangers 25-13. I'm not watching it either.. I'm following on NHL.com

It's funny to think about how weak the East is as a whole, compared to the West. We've got the Bruins in the 6th seed and two sloppy teams battling for 8th now. While the West only has two teams below .500. (Ducks and Jackets)

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 4:35 PM | Report abuse

richmondphil: do you mind if I ask you who you'd rather have, Rangers or Canadiens? and why? Not sure if you already said who you prefer..

Posted by: rachel216 | April 11, 2010 4:36 PM | Report abuse

Feel bad for the Blues. They had a strong resurgence this year, finished 8 games over .500 and still missed the playoffs. The Western Conf is definitely the quicker conference. A lot more speed. If the Caps played out west, it would be really cool to see us play a team like the Kings.

SOG are 30-13 in favor of the Flyers... do I want the Caps to face Lundy?? ;(

Posted by: rachel216 | April 11, 2010 4:43 PM | Report abuse

1 pd left - still 1zip Rags

Its going to be an insane 3rd pd. The Flyers need to really get ugly in that crease and get Lundy off his game, but without taking a penalty.

sure you do. If we lose, then we know we have to get better in certain aspects. If we win, then we win against a tough opponent. Sailing thru an easy 1st round isn't necessarily the best way to go. We could still be in sleep mode by game 3 of the 2nd round.

Posted by: cstanton1 | April 11, 2010 4:45 PM | Report abuse

That's true but I just want to get out of the first round without playing 7 games..

This is so crazy. The Flyers are outshooting the Rangers 37-17!! Lundy trying to do it all by himself.

Posted by: rachel216 | April 11, 2010 5:14 PM | Report abuse

I want the Rangers for a lot of different reasons. Caps are already used to Torts and Lundy in the playoffs. MTL has a very, very good PP, and spread the scoring around. The Rangers also play a bit more physical than MTL, so I'm hoping to see a bigger push back for the latter series.

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:22 PM | Report abuse

I am watching the game, Lundqvist is standing on his head. The Rangers have had zero offence and are basically letting the Flyers come to them. The Rangers look like they are playing for a shoot out. Philly has dominated them. The Flyers also hit three posts, while the Rangers have hit one. But, yea Lundqvist has been the difference.

Posted by: TheSmurfs | April 11, 2010 5:22 PM | Report abuse

And Lundy is very, very good, but so is Halak. It sucks having to face either of them, since they are both great goaltenders, but I think the Caps are able to crack both of them.

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:23 PM | Report abuse

Rangers look like an absolute mess this game. Lundy with 42 saves so far, unofficially.

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:26 PM | Report abuse

richmondphil: okay thanks. I agree. Our PK could really cost us if we play Montreal but it's honestly looking like we'll play them since Philly is all over the Rangers and Lundy. I just watched the 3rd period and Lundy is playing amazingly and is singlehandily keeping the Rangers it in. He made some fantastic saves here in the third.

Does anything change if this goes into OT? Imagine if this game had to be determined by a shootout... wow. It'd be tough to swallow for whichever team loses. But NYR will definitely have the advantage with Lundy.

Posted by: rachel216 | April 11, 2010 5:27 PM | Report abuse

Nothing changes in OT, same circumstances I beleive.

Has anyone see that Pelley/Haley fight? More importantly, Trevor Gillies going nuts on the bench afterwards?

Hilarious.

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:31 PM | Report abuse

how many times have we seen this with the caps. dominate the play. The other team wins because of the goalie... lundy looks solid... lets see what happens ion OT.

Posted by: samb99 | April 11, 2010 5:33 PM | Report abuse

Torts better light a fire under their belly, or it's hello Canadians.

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:36 PM | Report abuse

Philly timeout..It would suck if this went to shootout.

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:40 PM | Report abuse

..it sucks

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | April 11, 2010 5:44 PM | Report abuse

lol..that OT was painful to watch. Horrible pass, turnover, horrible pass, turnover.

Boucher vs. Lundy....hm.

Gaborik is automatic, you'd guess.

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:45 PM | Report abuse

70 hits and 70 shots on goal

love it.

and yeah, a game like this should never go to a shootout. That really corrupts the team concept of hockey.

Posted by: cstanton1 | April 11, 2010 5:45 PM | Report abuse

Crosby has 2 assists and 1 goal so far. Still 1st period.

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:46 PM | Report abuse

I think they needed to make an exception and let them keep playing OT... sucks to determine the winner and who goes to the playoffs by a crappy shootout.

Of course I'm kidding but you get the point.

going to SO right now..

Posted by: rachel216 | April 11, 2010 5:46 PM | Report abuse

Crosby scored his 50th. Sucks!!!

Posted by: instinct227 | April 11, 2010 5:46 PM | Report abuse

I predict Rags win 2-3.

Philly 1-3.

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:47 PM | Report abuse

...and has 107 points

Posted by: instinct227 | April 11, 2010 5:47 PM | Report abuse

"Stopped by Boucher."

Ouch.

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:48 PM | Report abuse

PA Parenteau is supposedly really good at shootouts.

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:49 PM | Report abuse

must be the day of the goon

Godard has a goal too.

Posted by: cstanton1 | April 11, 2010 5:50 PM | Report abuse

HABS!

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:50 PM | Report abuse

Bring on the Canadians

Posted by: instinct227 | April 11, 2010 5:50 PM | Report abuse

Heartbreaker!

Lundy deserves so much better.

Montreal it is!

Posted by: rachel216 | April 11, 2010 5:52 PM | Report abuse

so lame

if the Caps don't beat the Habs in 5 games, there's something not right. Habs are just not a very strong opponent and besides the PP/PK matchup they don't offer much of a challenge. If the Caps play hard hockey they should have little trouble with them. But I'm guessing it will still go to 6 games.

Posted by: cstanton1 | April 11, 2010 5:53 PM | Report abuse

The habs fans will learn to dislike Ovechkin the way they learned to dislike Lucic :)

Posted by: cstanton1 | April 11, 2010 5:54 PM | Report abuse

Wow, Islanders aren't making it tough for Cindy to rack up the points. He has 3 after 1st period.

Posted by: jdove80 | April 11, 2010 5:55 PM | Report abuse

I'm just glad we don't have to face Philly in the 1st round. If we have to, lets do that later.

Posted by: richmondphil | April 11, 2010 5:56 PM | Report abuse

Theo in Bell Centre.... oh god..

Posted by: rachel216 | April 11, 2010 5:57 PM | Report abuse

the Rangers played for a tie and then a SO, they didn't deserve to win.

Posted by: joek443 | April 11, 2010 5:58 PM | Report abuse

Rachel. Thankfully Caps get 4 at home.

Posted by: jdove80 | April 11, 2010 5:59 PM | Report abuse

if the Caps need all 4 home games to finish off the Haba, it's almost a guarantee that Theo will have been pulled at some point in the series.

Posted by: joek443 | April 11, 2010 6:03 PM | Report abuse

Stamkos and Crosby have 50 each as of the ends of their first periods. Going off their rates of scoring per period, there's about a 20% chance either will score in any given period, and there'd be about a 60% chance that at least one of them will score at least once in any given two random periods.

Considering the competition they are up against, and that they'll be trying to get #51, I think the chances Ovechkin won't be winning another Richard Trophy are pretty darn slim.

Posted by: youaresquishy | April 11, 2010 6:04 PM | Report abuse

I mean will be. Will be winning. The chances that Ovechkin will be winning another Richard Trophy are pretty darn slim.

Posted by: youaresquishy | April 11, 2010 6:09 PM | Report abuse

Go Stamkos. Please get a hat trick. I would like you to get one since I can't stand Crosby

Posted by: CapsFan75 | April 11, 2010 6:17 PM | Report abuse

@youaresquishy

It's 51 for Crosby. I am so mad. (Ovi, Ovi, Ovi, why did you have to get yourself suspended? Twice.)

Posted by: CapsFan75 | April 11, 2010 6:22 PM | Report abuse

I agree. Everyone seems to think it is a lock that we will fall apart in the playoffs.

Nobody is giving us any respect

I want to END all that talk.

Now.

Posted by: Bious | April 11, 2010 7:00 PM | Report abuse

It's not a 4-3 LOSS for the Caps. It's a 4-3 SHOOT OUT LOSS. There's a huge difference.

Posted by: SnOvechkin | April 11, 2010 7:06 PM | Report abuse

I'd rather have Theo in the Bell Centre in the playoffs than Halak at VC in the playoffs, at least Theo has done that before. The goalies only have to be good, it's the other 18 guys that have to make sure they show up every game. If they do Montreal will be lucky to go 5 games.
