I hoping that things work out where the Caps trade or buy out Theodore and Johnny and Varly are our goalies next year.

Let GMGM keep talking up JT60 like "he's a number 1 goalie and he just had a rough year or he in his last year of his contract and he'll play terrific." Until he's gone, expect nothing but praise from the Caps.

Thanks for the WPL video.

Mike Wise, please be quiet. Shhhh.

Trade Jose to the Flyers, they need a goalie badly and maybe would not mind the 4 Million for just the one year as a chance. Maybe get a Physical forward from them in return, they have plenty of them and it would free up some cap space. Resign Johnie with Varly and add a defenseman that can clear the crease. We stole Carlson from them for Eminger, maybe they are game for a return match.

Posted by: doughless | June 3, 2009 9:11 AM | Report abuse

How can you go 21 seconds with 6 skaters and NOT get called for too many men? How weak of a call was that last powerplay that Gonch scored on?

I'm totally disgusted with the NHL's favortism and lack of consistent calling.

Posted by: Greg S. | June 3, 2009 9:17 AM | Report abuse

Theodore to the Flyers? That's a pipe dream, honestly. They'd want Neuvirth or Varlamov. Remember that they've got a great big financial albatross around their necks named Danny Briere.

OT, if you're going up to Hershey Saturday, I'm trying to put together an impromptu potluck tailgate. Details are in the link - I need to know by Friday who's coming and what they're bringing. If you don't have a sign-in at Japers' / SB Nation, you can email me at my username at gmail dot com.

So is it true that the Pens had close to half a minute of six skaters on the ice, and it went uncalled? And if so, people wonder why a lot of folks think Bettman is trying to hand Pittsburgh the Cup.

Posted by: kittypawz | June 3, 2009 9:27 AM | Report abuse

Once again, an utter joke of officiating in the game. Not only did the Pens have 6 skaters on the ice for about half a minute and the weak interference that led to Sarge's goal, the refs completely ignored the interference by Gil the entire game.

I guess that's what you get when you cry about being interfered with in the first two games like the Pens players and fans did.

One thing this game showed is that the Pens need every advantage they can get to beat the Wings even without Datsyuk.

Does anyone know if the Bears ticket office is open today? I have been trying to call but am getting a busy line. I saw in an article on the Bears website about their game last night that the ticket office will re-open on Thursday at 9:00am.

I would hope the league would apologize for allowing such an egregious penalty go. It was comical when you are watching the game and the commentators are talking about it becasue it was so obvious yet the four guys in striped shirts did not see it.

Posted by: DBnMD | June 3, 2009 10:02 AM | Report abuse

The missed too many men on the ice was obviously a blown call, but the same thing happened to Detroit this year.

Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yREQt7lt4sw&feature=player_embedded

It's good to be alive. Can't wait to read Tubbo's lies at Noon.

Especially when those commentators are on Versus... if they get it, there is no way the refs should miss it.

Good stuff, both major cable companies in Manitoba are broadcasting games 3-5 of the Moose/Bears series. Need them to at split to they come back for game 6.

Posted by: Stu_c | June 3, 2009 10:14 AM | Report abuse

Greg S. And Moose33,

I agree 1,000 percent. I could not believe the too many men situation got by the refs and that last penalty was totally a BS call. Certainly not worthy of being called with 10 min left in a tied game 3 of Stanely Cup hockey!

How do we get congress involved?

Can't we petition to get Gretzky to become Commish?

Posted by: SkinsFanInNYC | June 3, 2009 10:15 AM | Report abuse

Yeah, the 6 men on the ice was comical. It wasn't like someone stepped on and went, uh-oh, and stepped off. They had 4 players below the circles and defensemen at the point. It was again a poorly officiated game.

The interference call on Ericcson and everything else that was let go, including interference on Gil EVERY time he is near the puck, disgraceful. The Red Wings still look like a very confident team and will take the series in no more than 6. Crosby managed a secondary assist, bummer.

Posted by: fanohock1 | June 3, 2009 10:17 AM | Report abuse

Congress is the last group of people we want involved. :)

Posted by: capsfan01 | June 3, 2009 10:18 AM | Report abuse

Bettman made a deal with Mario that he would get them a Cup, at any cost, if he could find a way to keep the team in Pitt. He probably paid for the white t-shirts too.

Hey Jumpy, thanks for the link, but a 10 second infraction in a non-SC finals does not quite equal. SC Finals should have the best of the best in officials.

Posted by: CTCapsPhan | June 3, 2009 10:20 AM | Report abuse

@SkinsFanInNYC and "How do we get Congress involved?"

Priceless. Only someone inside the Beltway would think that Congress can fix ANYthing. Maybe we should give the refs a bailout?

Posted by: Jumpy66 | June 3, 2009 10:21 AM | Report abuse

Oh, and did every see Mario soaking up the crow? What an egomaniac. You know he gets applause like that throughout the season when his mug is put on the jumbotron. Mrs. Lemieux probably had to get the doorways widened so Mario and Sidney can move about the house.

If you watch Babcock's post-game press conference, when one of the reporters finally brings up the 6-men on the ice thing, Babcock basically says "What can I say?" then stands up, ends the press conference, and walks out. Great stuff.

Posted by: 1hockeymom | June 3, 2009 10:35 AM | Report abuse

Exactly! Aren't the refs in the finals supposed to be the best?? Earned by merit or something? I mean all 6 Pens players were on the same side of the ice, it's not like they were all spread out. I guess I could see if you are watching the play down at one end and there is a 6th guy behind you or something. But they were all (minus the goalie) in the play? The only thing more infuriating than that was that the commentators congratulated the Pens fans with keeping quiet. They couldn't shut up about how that never would have gotten past the refs in Detroit because the fans would flip out. Last time I checked the refs were supposed to make calls without being told what to do by the fans. The last time I checked was obviously before the Pens' clause was added to the NHL rule book, as explained by RedBirdie below:

"mrszilla, didn't you see the new NHL rule? Refs are to only call penalties when requested by the Penguins bench or fans. If an infraction is committed by the Penguins, refs are only to call it if requested by Pens fans or bench. As the Penguins bench and fans would never actually want a penalty called against them, no penalties shall be called against the Penguins."

@fanohock1

Leosnis had to have the doors in his house widened so he could get his own fat ass from room to room! What a perfect face (17 chins) for Washington waste!

@Jumpy66: Maybe Mrs. Lemieux called the same contractor. At least Sidney is done breast feeding finally. Mrs. Lemieux is relieved to have more free time now.

never mind that the post about getting congress involved is obviously poking fun at congressional involvement in various baseball matters.

But I wouldn't expect someone with "66" in his or her user name to get soemthing so subtle.....

The thing I have been wondering is if Bruce Boudreau (and I love him - he is so likeable)...but, I could not help but feel that a seasoned NHL coach like a Jacques Martin or Mike Keenan (he is an unlikeable ass though) is needed to take that next step. I am willing to bet that if we don't progress next year, it will be at Bruce's door. Cup Finals is the expectation and righfully so!

Did anyone catch this from PTI last night? TK knows what's going on in the NHL:

Kornheiser: "And now as a birthday present to himself, Bettman will instruct the referees to make sure Pittsburgh wins the next two games at home and Sidney Crosby gets a hat trick in each."

Wilbon: "That's great. You have suggested on the commissioner's birthday -- not suggested, you said -- he fixes Stanley Cup final games, and he does not."

Kornheiser: "Wants to."

Someone else already touched on this, but could not resist. Keith Jones was really displaying his announcer cred suggesting that the reason the Pens fans were so quiet during that whole 6 on 5 was that they did not want to tip off the refs. Sure...I guess the fact that at the time the Wings were winning 2-1 and playing pretty strong had nothing to do with their lack of towel swinging and white T-shirt thumping.

Oh, and nice "effort" by Brian T turning his freebie T-shirt inside out during the interview to try and obscure the Pens logo. I am sure the Islander organization loved seeing him wearing the Pen's colors. Hey Tavares (sp), still sure you want to go there?

Posted by: mrszilla | June 3, 2009 11:51 AM | Report abuse

That is cool that Bruce was willing to make that comment. Crosby is very good at feeling body contact and bailing on a play when it's a lost cause and drawing a penalty.

For any Pens fans trolling...THAT is why I, and many other non-Pens fans dislike Crosby. Truth be told, Malkin is the one that scares the heck out of me skill-wise when he's on the ice. He is much much more dangerous. Crosby was scoring out of his mind earlier in the playoffs and has cooled off significantly as expected. I am not for one second implying that Crosby is not a talented player, but he is not a goal scorer, he's a set-up guy.

Has any team in NHL history "drawn" so many weak 3rd period penalties as the Penguins have this year?!? Every game it seems like they are on the power play with 10 minutes or less to go in the game.

Has any team gotten more power plays than the penguins in the third period/total during this year's playoffs? I would be surprised.

With regard to the refereeing in this series, the word is slowly leaking out that Bettman and Campbell are promising the refs in this series that if they call the games for Pittsburgh that they'll get exclusive franchise rights in their hometowns to a new business being opened by Don Koharski - Don's Donuts. They've already come up with the logo - a big fat pig wearing a zebra jersey with a greasey donut sticking out of it's mouth.

Regarding Crosby and sensing/avoiding oncoming contact: I know most of you just discovered hockey two months ago, so I guess you never saw Gretzky play? Go watch some old video and see how hard it was to nail No. 99 to the boards. It's called skill. Yet another skill your one-dimensional Russian retard doesn't possess.

LOL, so you are saying the Caps (and Ovechkin inparticular) choked because they lost to the Pens in 7 games? I'll let you think about that for a moment and realize what you've said. And then point out to you that Ovechkin outscored Sidney Louganis in the series. Just think about how much more he would have outscored him if the Pens had been held accountable by NHL rules.

Oh, this tired old stereotype again. Really, by now, you'd think the Pittsbirgh fans could create a new and obviosuly misinformed insult, but they're still rolling out "You just discovered hockey 2 months ago!" I suppose all of the creativity in Pittsburgh goes into making photoshops of Ovechkin in ballerina tights.

And speaking oh lack of hcokey knowledge, yours is showing. Ovechkin is hardly one demensional. And never mind that your "Russian Retard" comment is simply uncalled for and offensive. But then again, we all knew that Pittsburgh lacks class.

When Cindy gets off of Mrs. Mario milk, let me know. When he can stop crying to the refs and sucks it up. Stops looking like crap when he dives, give me a call.

Go Wings!!!

On the other side of things, we need to re-sign Johnny, let Threeormore go. Let Schultz go. Get rid of Mo too. Wave bye-bye to Nylander also.

Bring Alzner up, along with Aucion. Give Giroux and Carlsson a shot.
We need to take a closer look at Erik Cole, and look at getting a big stay at home defensemen. One who can clear the crease and not take stupid penalties.
