Boyd Gordon to return to Caps lineup against Flames

The Capitals are in midseason form when it comes to divulging line combinations for tonight's game at the Saddledome, there were no rushes at this morning's skate and Coach Bruce Boudreau is keeping things very close to the vest, but it's safe to say that things will be shaken up a bit against the Flames.

What Boudreau would say is that Boyd Gordon will return to the lineup tonight after missing the past five games. Also, D.J. King said he expected to play against the Flames, meaning there will be two other players on the scratch list tonight. Hard to tell exactly who, but Mathieu Perreault is likely one of them.

The addition of Gordon and King may not be the only roster tweaks, either. The Capitals typically expect there to be some kind of shake up after a game like they had against Minnesota, and Boudreau may experiment more with the exact combinations than simply inserting two new players in the lineup.

"I just want to get my first shift in and go from here, hopefully it will be a good game," said Gordon, who reiterated that he is fine after a week where he was not around the team and did not skate. "I feel good. I've been skating since Monday, things are good and hopefully that will continue tonight."

--Tyler Sloan, who is formally listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury, skated this morning and said although he wants to play in front of nearly a dozen family members at the Saddledome he's uncertain whether he'll suit up against the Flames. If he can't, Brian Fahey should make his first appearance on this road trip.

--Marcus Johansson (hip) skated but is expected to miss his fourth straight game.

--Michal Neuvirth was the first goaltender off the ice this morning so it looks like he is set to make his 10th start of the season.

Heyyy an update!

Was kind of hoping to see Holtby tonight, but I guess you gotta go with the hot hand.

"redder waters" -- who could possibly be the redder waters that SlurpeesAreCool is referring to?

Calgary? (They do have red jerseys)
Carolina? (They wear red as well)
Montreal? (Their so-called rouge looks more like a dark pink to me)

Nothing like the threat of Fahey getting a sweater to make u appreciate Sloan (or at least not completely hate him) This is a great reminder that...things could always get worse.

So with no Perreault or Johansson I guess that means Flash is back as the #2 center. The question is who is the #3 center. Hendricks can play C but has been a wing here so far. It could be Gordon or Stecks but both of them will just seem out of place with Fehr and Chimmy. Also if Gordon and King are in who is the other guy out?

Not surprised to hear that Sloan's hurt. Figured something must have happened to him so that he only had 7 minutes of ice time on Thursday.

It's not like we really have the luxury of being able to bench a defenseman for part of the game.
