Brashear Out (Updated)

I haven't received an update on Donald Brashear's condition, but he has not been on the ice since getting dropped by a Wade Belak left jab in the first period. I hope to have some news on his status after the game.

Update:Caps are saying sprained knee for Brashear.

Update:Jason Arnott also is out after a shoulder check by Shaone Morrisonn. He will not return for the Preds.

Laich has had a superb game

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | March 10, 2009 10:24 PM | Report abuse

Hey come on now wendel2, Fedorov should have a grandfather clause when it comes to hooking. Watch any game from the 90's, guys were getting spun around like tops and there were no calls.

Posted by: ludeman95 | March 10, 2009 10:24 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | March 10, 2009 10:30 PM | Report abuse

good idea to sign guys who need grandfather clauses.....maybe mcsorley will give brash a clause too

Posted by: wendel2 | March 10, 2009 10:31 PM | Report abuse

What the hell -- Ellis the stud???

Posted by: JIMALLCAPS | March 10, 2009 10:31 PM | Report abuse

We do seem to bring the best out of some of these goalies

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | March 10, 2009 10:31 PM | Report abuse

16 goals in 17 games is a slump.

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | March 10, 2009 10:31 PM | Report abuse

Wow Ellis ...

Posted by: --Boo-- | March 10, 2009 10:33 PM | Report abuse

Dan Ellis has never played this well in his life, I promise you

Posted by: Moose33 | March 10, 2009 10:33 PM | Report abuse

Malkin does that 9 times out of a 10 when he's going to the corner, so if that's interference they let it go all the time.

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | March 10, 2009 10:34 PM | Report abuse

Stop the stupid penalties!

What is Locker saying -- The Caps need the points after dropping 4 in a row

Posted by: JIMALLCAPS | March 10, 2009 10:35 PM | Report abuse

Brash has a sprained knee?!? I never would have guessed that.

Posted by: --Boo-- | March 10, 2009 10:35 PM | Report abuse

Got a point at least. Ellis has stood on his head while we've missed some open chances.

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | March 10, 2009 10:36 PM | Report abuse

Ellis stole the Preds a point

Posted by: JIMALLCAPS | March 10, 2009 10:36 PM | Report abuse

brashear has sprained knee just like nylander has an upper body injury and not just a healthy scratch

Posted by: _stevo | March 10, 2009 10:36 PM | Report abuse

My guess is brash fell awkwardly when he got caught.

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | March 10, 2009 10:37 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | March 10, 2009 10:43 PM | Report abuse

Holy crap. If the playoffs started tomorrow, we would be playing the Pens. I think this has to be the ultimate sexual fantasy for the NHL, Gary Bettman, and whatever networks are showing the games.

Posted by: --Boo-- | March 10, 2009 10:50 PM | Report abuse

Nicely played game, they wanted it bad but stayed disciplined. Only gave up one goal which is nice. Nice effort by Erskine on Belak - that guy's going to be tired tomorrow.

Posted by: FloridaCapsFan | March 10, 2009 10:50 PM | Report abuse

and even though it seems ovechkin didnt do much, since his usual is a few goals, he played a solid two-way game.

Posted by: richmondphil | March 10, 2009 10:50 PM | Report abuse

no complaints today. everyone was giving all they can.

@scmonty1

1:1. In OT, Semin -> Kozlov -> Feds. Done.

I'll drink to that!!! Awesome, Caps. Let's get it together for the Flyers on...Thursday, right? Let's GO Caps!

Posted by: LeftCoastCapsFan | March 10, 2009 10:52 PM | Report abuse

Loved Greenie's "duck and cover" as he got run over by the entire bench.

FEDS - I flippin love you!
Brooksey is a beast!
Nickie - you're always there for us
Semy - there no words for how awesome you've been.
Greenie - way to play D!

Posted by: smccloskey2 | March 10, 2009 10:53 PM | Report abuse

If we play like that every night and not miss some empty nets (Semin, Backstrom, Ovie...although Backie and Ovie got stopped) we look great.

Huge key tonight was being aggressive on the forecheck and our D actually looked PHYSICAL. Not just Erskine or Juice either, Greenie was throwing some hits, Mo played his best game in awhile. I might even be convinced Schultz actually collided with someone.

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | March 10, 2009 10:53 PM | Report abuse

3 fights? That seems a bit excessive. Matt's "Grammy" is not going to be happy with him. His nose looked terrible. Matt, I told you to stay out of trouble! Guys, feel better.

Posted by: ocracokemonkey | March 10, 2009 10:53 PM | Report abuse

Maybe I'm just the minimizing here, as I am not as astute of hockey person as others, but why was there such a panic over a four game losing streak?

I mean, Boston had a bad stretch this year, as did Philly and the Pens and just about every other team this year. Carolina has been hot of late, but have sucked WSA at times...

Prior to this game, we had a nine point lead on Carolina and were one point from second overall in the East.

I am glad the losing streak is over, but we aren't talking Armageddon here...

Bradley got busted up pretty good. Erskine faired well considering he had 3 or 4 punches thrown at him before he realized he was in a fight.

Posted by: ludeman95 | March 10, 2009 11:00 PM | Report abuse

brash got KOd by Balek

bradley got messed up by the Tootoo. lots of blood. stitches.

erskine and Balek threw it down a second time. probably a draw, although Balek jumped the gun.

Posted by: richmondphil | March 10, 2009 11:01 PM | Report abuse

So it Brash is going to be out for any length of time, who gets the callup from Hershey? Grant McNeill can throw a good punch but I'm thinking he's on a Hershey-only contract.

Tootoo says our "defensive game isnt where it should be". Thats telling...

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | March 10, 2009 11:05 PM | Report abuse

Caps haven't fought a lot this year. That was pretty ugly all around.

The GWG was Semin in the corner on a no look feed to Kozlov who centered to Feds. A beautiful deek of the goalie (ALL his clothes were on the ice) and Feds had an empty net to back hand it into.

Posted by: Greg S. | March 10, 2009 11:09 PM | Report abuse

Spell it with me, good people: Fed Or Ov. He was in the right place all night.
28 was a hard case everywhere on the ice and made fools numerous defenders. I see something interesting there.
Is Nick Backstrom playing in -exactly- the same time continuum as others? Are you sure?
The fights cost the team and the fine hitting helped a lot. I hope Brashear is okay.
PS Jose Theodore: W
