Mike Green won't play against Sabres
Coach Bruce Boudreau said Mike Green will not face the Buffalo Sabres this afternoon making this the fourth game that the defenseman has missed with an inner-ear trauma that was the result of the puck he took to the head on Feb. 6 against the Penguins.
Green participated fully in yesterday's practice in North Tonawanda, N.Y., but the team is continuing to play it safe with the two-time Norris Trophy candidate's health.
"It's all precautionary," Boudreau said. "He felt great yesterday, practiced through the whole practice. We just feel it's not worth him getting another hit when we don't play until Friday type of thing after tomorrow's game."
--Semyon Varlamov is expected to start against the Sabres here at HSBC Arena. In his most recent outing, Varlamov allowed three goals on nine shots in the first period of Washington's eventual 7-6 win over Anaheim but Boudreau absolved both goaltenders of any fault for the high-scoring contest immediately after it.
In two career appearances against Buffalo, Varlamov is 1-0-1 with a 2.46 goals-against average and .909 save percentage.
--Lines should look like what they have over the past few days but they'll be posted after warm-ups for this 12:30 p.m. contest.
